Jeffrey D. "Jeff" Duncan (born January 7, 1966 in Greenville , South Carolina ) is an American politician . He has represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives since 2011 .

Career

Jeff Duncan attended Ware Shoals High School until 1984 . In 1988 he graduated from Clemson University ; afterwards he worked in banking and real estate. Today he is the CEO of the family owned company J. Duncan Associates , which operates in the real estate business. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 2003 and 2010 he was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives . There he temporarily headed a number of committees, including the Agriculture Committee and the Environment Committee.

In the 2010 congressional election , Duncan was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of South Carolina , where he succeeded J. Gresham Barrett on January 3, 2011 . There he is or was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee , the Committee on Internal Security and the Committee on Natural Resources, as well as six sub-committees. Duncan is also a member of the Tea Party Caucus, affiliated with the Tea Party movement, and the Republican Study Committee . As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. Its latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019.

In May 2013, Duncan presented a bill that provides for fewer statistics and studies to be produced. As a justification, Duncan said that the collection of data gives the state more power over its citizens.

He is married and has three sons.
