James Overstreet

James Overstreet (born February 11, 1773 in Barnwell , Barnwell County , Province of South Carolina , †  May 24, 1822 in China Grove , North Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1819 and 1822 he represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Overstreet attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar in 1798, he began to work in Barnwell County in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party .

Overstreet was a member of the House of Representatives from South Carolina between 1808 and 1813 . In 1818 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of South Carolina , where he succeeded Joseph Bellinger on March 4, 1819 . After re-election in 1820, he could remain in Congress until his death on May 24, 1822 . James Overstreet died on the way home from Washington in China Grove, North Carolina. He was also buried there.
