William Timmons (2019)

William Richardson Timmons IV (born April 30, 1984 in Greenville , South Carolina ) is an American lawyer, businessman and politician from South Carolina and a member of the Republican Party . He is a member of the United States House of Representatives for the fourth congressional electoral district of South Carolina. He was previously a member of the South Carolina Senate from 2016 to 2018 .

life and career

William Timmons attended the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University , where he earned a degree in international affairs and political science. He also earned a Juris Doctor and Masters degrees in International Studies from the University of South Carolina . He spent four years with the 13th Circuit Solicitor's Office and runs the Timmons & Company, LLC law firm .

Timmons serves as a First Lieutenant in the South Carolina Army National Guard as a JAG officer.

US House of Representatives

Timmons was elected in the 2018 mid-term election to replace retired Trey Gowdy in South Carolina's 4th Congressional District. On June 10, 2018, Timmons took second place in a 13-candidate primary and received 19.2% of the vote. On June 28, 2018, Timmons defeated former State Senator Lee Bright in the runoff election, received 54.2% of the vote and became a candidate for the Republican Party.

Timmons faced Brandon Brown in the November general election. He defeated Brown with 59.5% of the vote. Timmons was one of the youngest US representatives from South Carolina since 1972.
