University of South Carolina
The University of South Carolina (also USC ) was founded on December 19, 1801 and is based in Columbia , the capital of the state of South Carolina . The university currently has 27,000 students. The campus, which opened in 1805, covers an area of 1.45 square kilometers.

Sports
The USC sports teams are the Gamecocks . The university is a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The football team plays their home games at Williams-Brice Stadium . The men's soccer team attends Conference USA because the SEC only sponsors soccer for women.
