The Conference USA is made up of 14 universities league in the United States for a variety of sports that the NCAA Division I play.
history
The league was founded in 1995 by the merger of the Metro Conference (Metro) and Great Midwest Conference (GMWC), in which no American football was played. The college football teams were organized in the new conference. Its headquarters are in Irving , Texas . The conference was directly affected by the "realignments" in 2005 and 2013, when various universities changed the conference within Division I. In 2005, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) was able to convince various universities of the old Big East Conference to transfer, which is why the latter universities in C-USA convinced them to transfer to compensate for the departures. In 2013, American football finally split the Big East after the ACC had again convinced two members of the Big East to convert and when the Catholic Seven re-founded the Big East, taking the name with them. The remaining members of the old Big East renamed the conference the American Athletic Conference and were able to record various newcomers, especially from the C-USA. For its part, C-USA filled its ranks, especially from the Western Athletic Conference and the Sun Belt Conference in 2005 . Of the founding members in 1995, only the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Southern Mississippi in C-USA are still represented. Unrest caused in December 2014 the announced withdrawal of founding member UAB from American football, which according to the statutes is incompatible with membership in the C-USA. The UAB finally promised to take part in the game operations of the C-USA with a football team again in the 2017 season.
In particular in the women's rowing and men's football teams, teams from various other universities that otherwise belong to other conferences also take part in the C-USA games.
