Arthur Warren Elston (born November 19, 1918 in Texhoma , Texas , † September 10, 1989 in Broadmoor , California ) was an American American football player. He played as a center in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cleveland Rams and in All-America Football Conference (AAFC) with the San Francisco 49ers .

career

Dutch Elston visited Toledo , the High School and studied from 1939 to 1941 at the University of South Carolina . There he played for the South Carolina Gamecocks , the football team of the colleges , as blocking back . Because of his athletic achievements, he was recognized by his college in 1939 and 1941. In 1942 he was signed by the Cleveland Rams . Under his head coach Dutch Clark he also played as a blocking back. From 1943 he served in the United States Army Air Corps and played there in a military team. In the years 1946 to 1948 Dutch Elston ran for the Buck Shaw trained San Francisco 49ers, who were based in the newly formed AAFC. Elston was used by Shaw as a center and had the task of protecting quarterback Frankie Albert and running back Parker Hall to block the way into the opposing end zone free . After the 1948 season he ended his playing career and was coach of the City College Rams , the football team of the City College of San Francisco . There he trained among others OJ Simpson . In 1976 he retired. Dutch Elston died of cancer and is buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno , California.
