history

The suggestion to found a “Blomberger Spar- und Leihekasse” came as early as 1865 from the people's and citizens' association that existed at the time. The Blomberg magistrate was not easy to win over to this idea and had doubts as to whether the matter was also feasible. Then in 1870, the city syndic apparently convinced the magistrate with a weighty voice with the promise "... that the city should incur no costs at all ...". Once again, the initiative came from the citizens' association.

The Blomberg Citizens' Association was an association of Blomberg citizens who, after the end of the guild constitution, expressed and represented the interests of master craftsmen and tradespeople vis-à-vis the council and administration.

“Excerpt” from the letter to the High Princely Government in Detmold: “The usefulness of a savings and loan institute for the city of Blomberg cannot be overlooked. Handicrafts and trade begin to rise after they have been freed from the annoying shackles they used to be. In particular, chair manufacture and trade, as well as coiting manufacture (cloth manufacture), have made a significant boom in recent years. It is of great importance for the manufacturers if they can now and then receive advances for the purchase of the materials against a moderate rate of interest, and on the other hand if they can do without the money they receive for their products and often for a shorter time in business ability, do not have to leave it useless in the meantime. "

On November 1, 1870, the “High Princely Government” in Detmold approved the statutes presented by the Blomberg magistrate and city councilors. On January 2, 1871, the then called "Spar- und Leihe-Casse zu Blomberg" opened its counters for the first time. The Rendant Friedrich Krüger (treasurer) set up a so-called party room in the town hall at the beginning and did the business from there.

The Sparkasse developed brisk business operations from the start. The wealthy citizens also carried their money to the cash register. In the first decades of its existence, for example, the Sparkasse was more of a cash register for tradespeople and merchants, i.e. small and medium-sized businesses, for most of the deposits and loans. The first current account is still maintained today by the company Blomberger Holzindustrie B. Hausmann GmbH & Co KG (successor company). Only in the course of the further business years did the customer structure change so that the management of the cash register reported in 1892 that the working class now holds 2/3 of the savings.

As far as its business premises are concerned, the Sparkasse made its way from the town hall via Rendant Krüger's specially purchased house on Pideritplatz. In 1939 the Sparkasse moved to its office building at Marktplatz No. 6 and in 1973 to the main office building at Rosenstrasse 5, which is still in use today. In the meantime, branches have been established in the neighboring villages.

At the beginning of the 1960s, the Sparkasse made an attempt to expand the business area to the surrounding towns and sought a corresponding association. However, these efforts were stopped by the Detmold District President with a view to the impending local government reform. As part of this regional reform at the beginning of the 1970s, the Detmold district president wanted to order the connection between the Blombergers and the Detmold Sparkasse. The Blomberger Sparkasse (represented by its owner) successfully sued this order at the Higher Administrative Court in Münster and thus retained its independence.

In keeping with its fundamental characteristic of being oriented towards the common good, parts of the annual surpluses are regularly distributed to the sponsor or used for further funding of the "Mayor Heinrich Fritzemeier Foundation" established in 1996 and the "Community Foundation Future Blomberg" initiated in 2005. In addition to these financial contributions, the Sparkasse has campaigns such as the “Helper Week”, the “Customer Workshop” or the “Gut. -Aktion “again and again new, positive signs for their social commitment.
