Tasks and structure as a modern service provider

The Sparkassenverband Westfalen-Lippe supports its member savings banks and their owners in fulfilling the tasks described in the Savings Banks Act of North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim of the association's activity is to secure and strengthen the public savings bank system. The SVWL advises the savings banks in all areas and represents their interests to the public and institutions. The SVWL represents the interests of the savings banks in the association area in the committees of the Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen (previously also WestLB ), the LBS West , the insurance company Provinzial NordWest and the Finanz Informatik . As a member of the German Savings Banks and Giro Association , he determines the business policy direction and the common advertising line of the savings banks ( corporate identity ).

The association promotes a socially important pillar of the German financial services market: the decentralized and communally anchored savings bank system ensures that citizens and companies in all parts of the country are provided with monetary and credit services. It strengthens competition in the banking industry. In addition, the public savings banks fulfill important public welfare-oriented tasks: through donations, foundations and sponsoring as well as distributions to the municipal sponsors, the savings banks benefit from numerous initiatives in the fields of youth, education and social affairs, culture, sport and business.

The SVWL sees itself as a modern service provider who contributes within an efficient committee structure for the formation of opinions and will of the member savings banks and their municipal sponsors and supports them effectively. For this purpose, the association works in two institutions: the office and the examination office.

The association is a consultant and auditor in one: the office represents the interests of the members, advises them on business and legal issues, for example, and develops sustainable solutions for day-to-day savings bank work. As an independent body of the association, the auditing office is entrusted with auditing the member savings banks. As part of her mandate, she reviews the annual financial statements as well as the credit, custody and securities business of the savings banks. A total of around 280 association employees stand up for the interests of the member savings banks and their owners - in the office, in the auditing office and in the economic sector. The guidelines of the association's work are given by the members and are described in the statutes.
