Daniel Nash Morgan (born August 18, 1844 in Newtown , Connecticut , † May 30, 1931 in Bridgeport , Connecticut) was an American banker, politician and government official.

Career

Daniel Nash Morgan was born and raised in Fairfield County during the Depression of 1837 . His father owned a business which he took over as a young man. He later partnered and renamed the business Morgan & Booth . In 1869 he moved to Bridgeport, Fairfield County, where he became a partner in Birdsey & Morgan , a ready- to- wear company and carpets. He also ran a grocery store, Morgan, Hopson & Co. , in 1877 , and in 1879 became president of the City National Bank of Bridgeport.

Morgan also had a political career. He was elected to the Bridgeport Borough Council in 1873 and served until 1874. He served on the Bridgeport Board of Education from 1877 to 1878 and was Mayor of Bridgeport in 1880 and 1884. President Grover Cleveland named Morgan Treasurer of the United States in 1893 . Morgan held the post from June 1, 1893 to June 30, 1897. He ran unsuccessfully for governor of Connecticut in 1898 . George E. Lounsbury then went out of the race as the winner.

Morgan died on May 30, 1931, twelve days after a car accident, in Bridgeport Hospital and was buried in Mountain Grove Cemetery , Bridgeport. He belonged to the Sons of the Revolution .
