Treasurer of the United States
The Treasurer of the United States ( Treasurer of the United States ) is a high-ranking posts in the Treasury of the United States . It was created in 1775 before there was a finance minister .
Originally, the treasurer was responsible for the administration of state funds. Over time, most of his duties fell to other staff positions in the Treasury. In 1981, the Treasurer was appointed to oversee the Bureau of Engraving and Printing , the United States Mint, and the United States Savings Bonds Division . Following a major reorganization in 2001, the Treasurer now serves as a senior advisor to the directors of the United States Mint and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and to the Treasury Secretary and his deputy on monetary and monetary matters. The dollar - bank notes are in addition to the finance minister and the respective Treasurer signed.
As US President Harry S. Truman in 1949 wanted to nominate a woman for a high-level political position, he appointed Georgia Neese Clark to Treasurer of the United States . Since then, the office has consistently been held by women. Seven of the last eleven incumbents were Hispanics , including current Treasurer Jovita Carranza .
