Walter Orr Woods (born October 31, 1873 in Carlinville , Illinois , † June 7, 1951 ) was an American government official.

Career

Walter Orr Woods, son of Mary F. Holliday and Joseph Poley Woods, was born in Macoupin County about eight years after the end of the Civil War . Nothing is known about his youth or his private life. Woods was married to Anna Lindsley Dorsey. Eventually he moved to Kansas and settled in Concordia ( Cloud County down). He served on the War Loan Board when US President Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933) made him a registrar in the United States Treasury Department in 1927 . He held this post from October 1, 1927 to January 17, 1929. He was then from January 18, 1929 to March 31, 1933 Treasurer of the United States . He served most of his tenure under President Herbert Hoover (1874–1964). He was buried in the Carlinville City Cemetery.
