Albert Uriah Wyman

Albert Uriah Wyman (born September 25, 1833 in Cornwall , Canada , † March 5, 1915 in Washington, DC ) was an American banker and government official.

Career

Albert Uriah Wyman, son of Emeline "Milla" († 1854) and William Wells Wyman (1800–1861), was born in Ontario during the reign of William IV , King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland . The family immigrated to the United States . She moved to Wisconsin and settled in Madison ( Dane County down). Albert Uriah Wyman grew up there. He attended community schools and then worked in the printing shop for his father. Later, he went into the banking business, he first worked in Madison and then in Omaha ( Nebraska ). During the Civil War in 1863 he was employed as a clerk in the Treasurer of the United States . He later became a cashier. He continued this position until his resignation on January 1, 1868. On April 1, 1875, he became Assistant Treasurer in the Treasurer of the United States.

US President Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885) nominated him on June 28, 1876 Treasurer of the United States and the US Senate confirmed him the following day. Wyman took up his new post on July 8, 1876 and held this until July 1, 1877. He was then in September 1879 as a cashier in the agency of the Treasurer of the United States. US President Chester A. Arthur (1829-1886) nominated him in 1883 for the post of Treasurer of the United States. Wyman held the post from April 1, 1883 to April 30, 1885, after being ratified by the U.S. Senate.

He then returned to Omaha, where he worked as a banker for the Omaha Trust Company and ultimately became its president. In 1901 he was appointed auditor for the US Department of War . He died in Washington, DC during the First World War

Albert Uriah Wyman was married twice. On November 23, 1859, he married his first wife Harriet C. Fake (1838–1876) in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple had at least three children: Henry Fake (1863–1952), William Tupper (1865–1923) and a toddler who died in January 1876. After the death of his first wife, he married Margaret T. Sanderson (1846–1922). The couple had at least one daughter: Helene R. (1878–1975).
