Luis Guzman
Luis Guzmán (born January 1, 1957 in Cayey , Puerto Rico ) is an American actor of Puerto Rican descent.
Life and accomplishments
Guzmán grew up in New York , where he graduated from City College. After graduating, he first worked as a social worker . As an actor, he made his debut in the film drama On the Net of Violence (1977) and then played in two episodes of the television series Miami Vice . In the action film Black Rain (1989) he starred alongside Michael Douglas and Andy García . He was then cast in two films by Sidney Lumet and in Brian De Palma's Carlito’s Way .
The drama Boogie Nights (1997) was Guzmán's first film with director Paul Thomas Anderson , and he has been part of the regular cast ever since. For the role he received the 1998 Florida Film Critics Circle Award along with the rest of the cast and was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in the same category . For the second collaboration in Magnolia , Guzmán received another nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award in the category Best Actor Ensemble. In 2000 he won the Florida Film Critics Circle Award again in this category with Tom Cruise , Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore, among others . His portrayal in the comedy Punch-Drunk Love (2002) earned him an Imagen Award in 2003 .
He also works regularly with Steven Soderbergh . For the supporting role in the film The Limey (1999) he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in 2000, for his role in Traffic - Power of the Cartel , Guzmán was named best actor ensemble with Michael Douglas , Benicio del Toro , Catherine Zeta-Jones and others honored with the Screen Actors Guild Award.
Meanwhile Guzmán is no longer in the role of the Latino - Gangsters limited.
He also lent his voice to the gangster Ricardo Diaz in the computer games Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories .
Guzmán has been married to Angelita Galarza since 1985 . He has five children and lives in the US state of Vermont .
