Dreamer is a 2005 American film .
action
The film is about a beautiful race horse mare named Soñador (Spanish for "dreamer") called Sonya. She has an excellent pedigree and is considered a favorite for the upcoming races. Before a race, the trainer Ben Crane does not want to let the mare start because he has a bad feeling, but the owner Palmer forces him to give the mare to the start. In this race the horse falls and breaks a leg. The owner Palmer then decides to have the mare killed, but Crane does not allow it. Crane is released and receives the injured Sonya as severance pay, which is then looked after by his daughter Cale and his father. First, he would like to have the mare covered by a stallion in order to sell the foal and thus secure a small profit. But it turns out that the mare is sterile.
Ben Crane blames his daughter for trying to save the injured animal in the first place. Cale then runs away with the horse. On this occasion it turns out that Sonya has completely recovered and could run races again. Ben finds back his belief in horses and they let Sonya compete in the big Breeders' Cup . Participation is made possible by the financial help of Prince Sadir. The horse takes first place and thus wins the race.
background
The script is based on the story of the racehorse Mariah's Storm, who was born in 1991. Donald T. Johnson, of Crescent Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, was the breeder . The mare's father was Rahy, who was voted “best European horse of the year” in 2001. After a successful career start with some victories such as B. the Arlington Oaks, the mare broke a leg at the beginning of the second season, and that seemed to seal the end of her career. But to the surprise of the turf world , the mare recovered completely and after a few easy starts won the Turfway Breeders 'Cup Stakes ( Breeders' Cup ) of 1995 in the same season. The Mariah's Storm Stakes in Arlington Park is held annually in her honor .
