Elisabeth Judson Shue (born October 6, 1963 in Wilmington , Delaware ) is an American actress , film producer and singer .

life and career

The only girl out of four siblings, Elisabeth Shue grew up in South Orange , New Jersey . She first studied political science at Wellesley College . Her brother Andrew Shue is also an actor.

After some first appearances in commercials during her studies collected Shue her first acting experience early 1980s in the television series The lust for fame , where they on the side of Craig T. Nelson the role of Jackie Sarnac played. In the 1980s she was primarily subscribed to the role of the “nice girl next door”, which was mainly due to her role in the trilogy Back to the Future , in the second and third parts of which she played. Fighting successfully against this type of role, she played the hardened and at the same time fragile prostitute Sera in the drama Leaving Las Vegas in 1995 . Her acting performance was honored with a nomination each for an Oscar and a Golden Globe . Her film partner Nicolas Cage received the Oscar in the category Best Actor , the film received mostly very good to excellent reviews.

In addition to her acting career, Shue continued to pursue the goal of becoming a lawyer . In 2012 she starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence in Mark Tonderai's horror thriller House at the End of the Street . She also returned to television in 2012 and starred in the series CSI: Vegas . She followed Marg Helgenberger there , who left the series after twelve years.

Shue has been married to producer and director Davis Guggenheim since 1994 . She has three children.
