Greyhound - Battle of the Atlantic (Original title: Greyhound ) is a war drama by Aaron Schneider , which celebrated its premiere on July 10, 2020 on Apple TV + . The film is based on the 1955 novel The Good Shepherd by Cecil Scott Forester. It follows the first deployment of a US Navy commander in a convoy attacked by submarines during the Battle of the Atlantic in 1942.

action

Shortly after the United States entered World War II, Commander Krause was given command of the state-of-the-art, RADAR- equipped Fletcher-class destroyer USS Keeling , nicknamed Greyhound ; it is his first command. The team is initially skeptical of him. On his first North Atlantic crossing, he leads an international convoy of 37 Allied ships. The convoy is soon followed by packs of wolves from German submarines.

When crossing the Atlantic, all convoys must cross an area without air support, which takes about five days. When they succeed in destroying one of the German submarines, Krause gains the trust of the crew.

Over time, several ships from the convoy are sunk or damaged. Krause and his team gradually succeed in sinking most of the German submarines. However, the USS Keeling itself is easily damaged. In the end, with the help of British reinforcements arriving from the air, the last submarine was also sunk.
