David Bowditch Morse (born October 11, 1953 in Hamilton , Massachusetts ) is an American actor .

Life

Morse began his career in the theater. Between 1971 and 1977 he appeared in over thirty stage productions, in the later 1970s at the renowned Circle Repertory Theater in New York City . His film career began with a role in Richard Donner's Max’s Bar in 1980, which, however, only began in the late 1990s with engagements in films such as 12 Monkeys (1995), The Rock (1996), Contact (1997), negotiation matter (1998) and The Green Mile (1999) found her breakthrough.

In 2002, Morse received the Golden Horse Award in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in the Taiwanese film Double Vision . It was the first time that an English-speaking actor was nominated for this film award. His leading role in Martin Donovan's tragicomedy Collaborator earned him the 2011 Acting Award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival .

Morse has been married to fellow actor Susan Wheeler Duff since 1982 and has a daughter and twin sons.
