Reviews

Dennis Harvey wrote on January 22, 2008 in the online edition of the magazine Variety that the meeting of the "vanilla protagonist" with some wild characters should appeal to heterosexual and homosexual audiences between 20 and a little over 40 years of age. The film adaptation leaves out the key character of Arthur Lecompte appearing in the novel, which reduces the bi- / homosexual topic. "Warmth" and the "peculiarity" of the novel would be missing. Foster's portrayal is a bit bland.

Awards

The film entered the 2008 Sundance Film Festival as a competition entry, nominating Rawson Marshall Thurber for the Grand Jury Prize.

backgrounds

In early 2000, the director and screenwriter of the independent films Jon Sherman wrote a screenplay based on the novel by Chabon. Jason Schwartzman was slated for the lead role of Art Bechstein . The project was abandoned that same year.

The film was shot in Pittsburgh .

Cleveland's so-called “cloud factory” is the decommissioned Carrie Furnaces steelworks, built in 1907, in Rankin on the Monongahela River, southeast of Pittsburgh.
