Jason Francesco Schwartzman (born June 26, 1980 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American musician and actor .

Life

Jason Schwartzman was born in 1980 as the first child of film producer Jack Schwartzman ( Never Say Never ) and award-winning actress Talia Shire . His family also includes his brother Robert Schwartzman and half-siblings Matthew Shire, John Schwartzman and Stephanie Schwartzman (outfitter for Edward Scissorhands and others). His relatives include Oscar winners such as Nicolas Cage , Francis Ford Coppola, and Sofia Coppola . Schwartzman discovered his interest in film at the age of ten when he and his brother Robert made the amateur films One Man One Reality and Back to the Future: Teen Wolf at a holiday camp . But when his parents gave him a drum kit that same year, he wanted to become a musician. After his father's death, Schwartzman founded the band Phantom Planet in 1994 , which four years later released their debut album Phantom Planet Is Missing and made guest appearances on series such as Sabrina - Totally Verhext! found her audience. He founded his own solo project in 2006 under the name Coconut Records .
