Mena Alexandra Suvari (born February 13, 1979 in Newport , Rhode Island ) is an American actress , fashion designer and model . She gained fame with her roles as Angela Hayes in American Beauty (1999) and as Heather in three films in the American Pie series (1999, 2001, 2012).

Life

Suvari was born in Newport, Rhode Island, to Candice ( maiden name Chambers), a nurse , and Ando Suvari, a psychiatrist . Her mother is of Greek descent and her father is of Estonian-American descent. She has three older brothers.

At the age of twelve, Suvari first worked as a photo model, including for Oscar de la Renta , and had minor appearances in commercials. She worked with the Wilhelmina modeling agency in New York for five years . Suvari attended Providence High School in Burbank and graduated in 1997.

On March 4, 2000 she married the 17 years older German cameraman Robert Brinkmann , but the marriage was divorced in May 2005. At the end of June 2010 she married the then 25-year-old concert manager Simone Sestito in Rome . On January 13, 2012, Suvari filed for divorce again.

Career

Suvari began her acting career in the mid-1990s with appearances on television series. She has appeared in Life and Me and Emergency Room, among others. In Chicago Hope she played an HIV- infected girl named Ivy .

She had her first film role in 1997 on the side of James Duval in the film Nowhere . She then played a small role as Coty Pierce in the 1997 thriller ... because they're there to kiss with Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd .
