The Doom Generation

Nowhere is a US-French film from 1997. It is the last part of the so-called Teen Apocalypse Trilogy by American director Gregg Araki and is the only film from this trilogy that was also shown in German cinemas.

The film reflects a youth culture on the fringes of society that tries to escape reality through drugs, violence and sex. During the action, which takes place over a period of 24 hours, LSD trips, bisexuality, suicide, rape and alien abduction are discussed. At the end of the film, the main actor portrays the emotional world of young people in a short, concise sentence: “ I'm only 18 years old and totally fucked up! "

Nowhere brings together a whole host of illustrious young actors, including well-known names like James Duval , the only actor to star in the entire trilogy, Mena Suvari , Ryan Phillippe , Heather Graham , Scott Caan , Denise Richards , Christina Applegate , Nathan Bexton and Rose McGowan , who only played a supporting role in Nowhere , but played a leading role in The Doom Generation .

Critics described the film as Beverly Hills, 90210 on Acid , other voices accused the director of glorifying self-destruction.

Reviews

“Without attempting to distance ourselves, the film adopts the superficiality of the relationships described. Poppy, bright colors and gleefully exhibited grotesque situations and effects deliver this "Teen Fear Movie", typical of the director, to the suspicion of pretentious, self-satisfied provocation. "
