Denise Lee Richards (born February 17, 1971 in Downers Grove , Illinois ) is an American actress and former model .

life and career

Denise Richards was born in Downers Grove , Illinois , to Joni, a coffee shop owner and Irv Richards, a telecommunications engineer. Her father is Welsh and her mother is Croatian . She grew up with her parents and sister Michelle, first in Downers Grove and later in California . In 1989 she graduated from El Camino High School in Oceanside , California.

Richards began a career as a model with the "Judith Fontaine Modeling & Talent Agency". In addition to her modeling career, she also began working as an actress. She gained her first experience with guest appearances in television series. In 1993 she played Molly Dalrymple in the sitcom Seinfeld in the episode "The Beautiful Shoes" . In 1994 she had a role in the series Superman - The Adventures of Lois & Clark . She made her first film appearance with a small role in the comedy Loaded Weapon 1 (1993).

Her first film lead role she played in 1997 as Carmen Ibanez in the action film Starship Troopers on the side of Casper Van Dien . In 1998 she starred alongside Matt Dillon , Neve Campbell and Kevin Bacon in the thriller Wild Things . She also appeared in the music video for the Blues Traveler song Canadian Rose .

Richards played the Bond girl Dr. Christmas Jones in the 1999 James Bond film The World Is Not Enough alongside Pierce Brosnan and Sophie Marceau . The film was an international hit, but Richards received generally negative reviews for her role . She received two nominations for the negative Golden Raspberry Award , one of which she “won”, and in 2008 she was voted “Worst Bond Girl of All Time” by Entertainment Weekly magazine .

In addition to her cinema career, she repeatedly played roles in television series, including 2001 in Friends and Chaos City and played a role in two episodes of Two and a Half Men (2003-2004).

At the start of the new millennium, Richards often played roles that parodied their image as a sex symbol . In 2001 she played Paige in the horror movie Scream If You Can . At her side were David Boreanaz , Katherine Heigl and Marley Shelton, among others. In 2003 she made a cameo on Scary Movie 3 and played a small role in Really ... Love With Hugh Grant .

In 2008, Denise Richards started her own reality show - It's Complicated on E! Entertainment Television , with which she wanted to dispel negative rumors about herself. There were positive reactions, but Charlie Sheen - father of their children - criticized the show with the allegation that Richards abused their children in order to appear sympathetic. The show ran for a year. In 2009, Richard was a participant in the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars . Her dance partner was Maksim Chmerkovskiy. From 2013 to 2014 she played the role of Karen Desai in the short-lived television series Twisted . In 2019 she took on the role of Shauna Fulton in the television series Rich and Beautiful and became one of the protagonists of the reality show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills .

Personal

In 2002, Richards married the actor Charlie Sheen , with whom she had already stood in front of the camera for the comedy Good Advice (2001). In 2004 and 2005 their two daughters were born.

In March 2005, Richards filed for divorce from Sheen after the two had been separated since late 2004. The marriage has been legally divorced since December 2006.

From 2006 to May 2007, Richards was in a relationship with Richie Sambora , the guitarist of Bon Jovi . In 2011 she adopted a little girl.

She has been married for a second time since 2018.
