action

The attractive sports and trust teacher Sam Lombardo is the star at his school and a crush on the female student body. But then he is accused of rape by millionaire daughter Kelly Van Ryan. This initially triggers a scandal as Sam is considered the perfect educator. Before the trial, Suzie Toller, a poor student, claims to have also been raped by Sam. The case seems clear at first.

At the trial, however , Sam's attorney Kenneth Bowden found that Suzie was still seeking friendly assistance from her teacher after the alleged rape. He puts her on the stand under pressure until she admits to have made everything up on Kelly's instructions, as she could not bear that Sam preferred her mother Sandra as a lover over her. Kelly attacks her and there is a commotion in the courtroom. To discontinue the proceedings Sam and Sandra Van Ryan's action lawyers a comparison from which the falsely accused Sam million 8.5 dollars awards from the trust assets of Kelly.

Sam then goes to a motel, where Kelly and Suzie are already waiting for him: The three have arranged everything to get the money from the trust fund that Kelly would otherwise have received only after her mother's death. Sam explains to the two that they will never be allowed to meet again after that night, but that before that they could celebrate a small victory party in the form of a " fleet threesome ".

A little later, Sergeant Ray Duquette investigates the case with his partner Gloria Perez and describes his suspicions that Sam, Kelly and Suzie have arranged everything. He presses the three, especially the apparently unstable Suzie, which Kelly and Sam get them out of the way. Only two broken teeth and some blood are found of her. Ray fears that Kelly is also in danger. When he drives to the Van Ryans' estate, however, there is an exchange of fire: Ray is hit in the shoulder and Kelly dies. Ray, who shot and killed someone in self-defense for the second time, is retired without a pension. The blame for Suzie's death is placed on Kelly because her mother's vehicle has been identified as the one in which Suzie's body must have been transported.

Sam has now rented a beach house where Ray visits him. They congratulate each other on their successful plan, even if Sam expresses his displeasure over Kelly's unplanned death. On a subsequent sailing excursion, Sam finally wants to let Ray go overboard. However, he climbs back on the boat and attacks Sam, but is suddenly killed with a harpoon by Suzie, who was believed to be dead.

Detective Perez learns the truth about her former partner from Suzie's foster mother: Ray had a relationship with a girl from the Everglades . When an Indian boy named Davie tried to stop him from beating her up, Ray simply shot him dead without need. Suzie, who is indeed gifted , witnessed the crime, which is why Ray had her locked up for alleged drug abuse . Then she thought about revenge and worked out the plan.

Meanwhile, Suzie completes this on the boat by killing Sam with poison in his drink. Like the mythical Medea once after the murder of King Creon , she drives away on the yacht aptly named Helios .

In further scenes during the credits you can see in flashbacks how the individual phases of Suzie's plan were carried out.

Reviews

The film received mostly positive reviews, earning a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 58 reviews. And at Metacritic a Metascore of 52, based on 20 reviews.

“Intelligent genre variation that unfolds a sophisticated dramaturgy of surprises in order to undermine the audience's expectations and viewing habits. This deconstructivism is of course exhausted in momentary amazement, which is followed neither by an emotional nor an intellectual afterlife. "

background

Credits

A special feature of the film is the complex, nested storyline, which is resolved by means of key scenes, not shown before, which are incorporated into the credits :

  1. Suzie walks into Sam's office and confronts him with photos of him having sex with Kelly.
  2. Suzie arranges for Sam and Ray to meet in a bar.
  3. Sam is supposed to break out two of Suzie's teeth to fake her death; but he can't do it, so she does it herself.
  4. Ray surprises Kelly in her room, hits and throws her to the floor, shoots her and puts a gun from the closet in her room in her hand, with which he shoots himself in the shoulder.
  5. Suzie meets Sam's lawyer, Kenneth, at a beach bar, who hands her a suitcase with cash and a check. The scene reveals that the two were the real masterminds of the events and were the only ones who knew the whole plan - and survived.

Unrated version

In 2004 in the United States a so-called appeared Unrated version ( Engl. For unaudited ) of the film on DVD , in which there is some new erotic, but to see additional action scenes. The most important of these for the plot explains that Suzie is an illegitimate daughter of Sandra Van Ryan's father and thus Kelly's aunt, which is why she actually had a legitimate claim to part of Van Ryan's fortune.

The unrated version also adds two more enlightening scenes in the credits:

0. Kelly meets Sam in a bar in the Everglades and takes drugs with him.
2.2 Sam and Kelly are having consensual sex at the time he allegedly raped her .

Sequels

Wild Things drew three sequels ( Wild Things 2 , Wild Things 3 , Wild Things 4 - Foursome ), which copy the plot almost identically, but do not come close to the original in terms of quality. In the fourth part, which was worked on from 2006 under the working title Backstabbers , the cast of the first part should appear again. However, he appeared in 2010 with Ashley Parker Angel and John Schneider in the lead roles.
