John McNaughton

John McNaughton (born January 13, 1950 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American film director .

Career

John McNaughton made his directorial debut in 1984 with the documentary Dealers in Death . Two years later he made his first feature film, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer . This is a low budget film that was filmed in 28 days, but the film was only released in theaters three years after it was completed. Various films followed, as well as television engagements from time to time. He directed several episodes of the crime series Homicide . His best-known film to date is Wild Things from 1998.

For the 1997 television movie Firehouse , he used the pseudonym Alan Smithee .

For his feature film debut, he received the International Fantasy Film Award in the categories of Best Screenplay and Best Film at Fantasporto 1991 .
