Theresa Russell (* 20th March 1957 in San Diego as Theresa Paup) is an American actress .

biography

Theresa Russell was born in San Diego, the oldest of five children, and raised in Burbank . She played in an amateur drama group in high school and worked as a photo model since she was twelve . She dropped out of school at the age of sixteen and attended Lee Strasberg's drama school for two years . Her film debut in Elia Kazan's The Last Tycoon (1976) drew the attention of Dustin Hoffman , who cast her for the lead role in his production Hour of Probation . With Black out - Anatomie einer Liebe , she had her final breakthrough as an actress in 1980. In the process she met her future husband with the director Nicolas Roeg .
