action
Burned-out author Mike Dolan returns to his hometown called Glory. In his book Glory Days he described his father's accidental death as an assassination attempt. Some residents of his hometown Glory are believed to have been involved in this alleged plot. In the first episode, on his return to the island, he witnesses a murder on the ferry. Little by little, Mike meets old and new friends.
At least one murder happens in every episode, and all of them are solved more or less successfully by Dolan together with the coroner Ellie Sparks and Sheriff Rudy Dunlop ( Whodunit principle). Phenomena that appear paranormal often play a role, but in the end a natural explanation is found for them.
Williamson originally wanted to create Glory Days as a drama, similar to his first big hit series Dawson's Creek , but the TV station wanted to follow the trend of forensic investigative series such as CSI at the time , in order to inspire younger and especially male viewers for the series. Entertainment Weekly described the intended direction of the series as " Northern Exposure- cum- X-Files murder mystery for the MTV crowd".
