action

Catherine Petersen marries some rich men who die shortly after the wedding. The FBI -Agentin Alexandra Barnes, who works in Washington, discovered over time their presence and thoroughly investigated the matter. She eventually travels to Hawaii , where Petersen is staying, and arranges a chance meeting.

Petersen has a new partner, Paul Nuytten, whom Barnes also finds attractive. Petersen offers her new friend, whom she already suspects of spying on her, to share the husband. When Nuytten dies, Barnes appears to be taken into custody for finding poison on Nuytten and the same poison in Barnes' temporary home in Hawaii. It is believed that Barnes poisoned Nuytten in her obsession with getting Petersen in the blind belief that she was a perfect murderer and could therefore only be stopped. In truth, however, it had been Petersen to blame Barnes with the aim of eliminating the agent and getting Nuytten's money anyway.

Petersen then visits Barnes in prison and speaks openly about what has happened just before she plans to leave with the Nuytten money. It turns out a short time later that Nuytten lives in truth and that the "black widow" fell into a trap of the agent who had recognized her intentions in time, whereby she also ensured, as part of the trap, that she found out that she's from the FBI. So she can be convicted as a murderer, whereby she can also be convicted of her past murders. Catherine is then arrested and Barnes leaves the building as a heroine to return to Washington.

Reviews

Roger Ebert described the film in the Chicago Sun-Times on February 6, 1987 as interesting , but criticized the unsurprising end if one had seen more than three films . He noticed the underlying erotic tension between Barnes and Petersen , which the script and the direction would not explain enough. Ebert praised the actors' achievements, especially those of Debra Winger and Theresa Russell.

"Elegant duel with subtle tension."

The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.
