Twisted is an American youth - Mystery series with Avan Jogia and Denise Richards in the lead roles. The series was produced in 2013 and 2014 by Pariah Television in collaboration with ProdCo Original for the broadcaster ABC Family . It is about a 16-year-old teenager who becomes the prime suspect in a murder case. It premiered in the United States on March 19, 2013, following the third season finale of Pretty Little Liars as a preview . The remaining episodes were shown between June 18, 2013 and April 1, 2014.

Danny Desai moves back to his old homeland, where his aunt Tara was murdered a few years ago. Danny was convicted of murder for this act and was imprisoned for five years. On his return he befriends his old friends Jo and Lacey again, although everyone else in town despises him and confronts him with a witch hunt through the media. He is also ostracized by his other schoolmates. But when Regina Crane is found murdered, Danny is portrayed in public as a suspect, as he had previously received a text message from her saying that she knew what the murder of his aunt was all about. Jo and Danny begin to investigate on their own and want to prove his innocence at all costs.
Meanwhile, Jo clashes with her father Kyle, who is a thorn in the side of his friendship with Danny and he thinks he is guilty of the murder of Regina Crane. She decides to prove Danny's innocence and tries to befriend Lacey again to learn more about Regina and to seek evidence against Danny. Danny also tries to gain a foothold in school life and registers with the soccer team. There, however, he immediately clashes with Archie Yates, who doesn't like Danny anyway because he is with Lacey. Danny and Lacey start an affair, but break up when the relationship becomes public. Archie leaves Lacey and she becomes an outsider. She gets back together with Danny, but they split up again because she can't trust him.
Later in the season, Danny’s father, believed to be dead, and Karen's husband, Vikram Desai, reappear. Back then, he and Jack Taylor faked his own death on a boat trip. It turns out that he murdered his sister Tara and Danny took the blame on himself. Karen and Danny also learn that he was having an affair with Karen's girlfriend Tess and Regina's mother, Gloria. Regina had caught the two, which is why Vikram hired Marilyn Rossi to kill Regina Crane so that she wouldn't tell anyone that he was still alive. Danny and Jo discover the secret and a confrontation breaks out on the cliffs of the city. When Vikram tries to attack Jo, Danny pushes him off the cliff. Marilyn Rossi is arrested for murder.
Danny develops feelings for Jo, but has to suppress them because he is blackmailed by his former cellmate Charlie McBride. Charlie found out that Danny had his father on his conscience and threatened to take it to the police. Since Danny doesn't want to go to prison again, he allows Charlie and Jo to start a relationship. Tess and Karen are shocked by the confessions and can't believe Vikram is dead. They do further research and discover that Charlie McBride is Tess' son.

- Danny is a charismatic 16 year old boy who was a suspected sociopath. He is believed to have murdered his aunt at the age of eleven and was then imprisoned. He confessed to his aunt's murder, but withheld his motives. After his release he moves back to his old home. He slowly rebuilds a relationship with his old friends until he comes under suspicion again for the murder of a classmate. He starts a secret affair with Lacey. When they have sex with each other, they are filmed by someone.
- Jo Masterson
- Jo is a tough and vulnerable girl who has been treated as an outsider since the events of that time. Jo was very close to Danny and discovered the disfigured body of Danny's aunt. When Danny comes under suspicion of murder again, she sticks to him and becomes an important reference person for him. Over time, her feelings for Danny grow too.
- Lacey Porter
- Lacey used to be Jo and Danny's best friend. But she has left her past behind and does not want to have anything to do with her old friends, because she does not want to risk losing her popularity. She is Archie's girlfriend. After some time, however, she gives in to the courtship of Danny and begins a secret relationship with him, which is broken up by secrets from Danny.
- Rico
- He's the best friend of Jo, who is secretly in love with her. Rico is very unpopular at the school because of his intelligence. He also believes Danny is innocent but begins to question it. He later has a relationship with Andie Dang.
- Karen Desai
- She is the mother of Danny and used to be one of the most popular people in town. But since her son was accused of murder, she has been shunned by the people in town. She starts a relationship with Jack Taylor without realizing that he helped her husband fake his death back then.
- Tess Masterson
- She is the mother of Jo, who tried to acquit Danny, but kept clashing with her husband. At a young age, she had an affair with Danny's father.
- Kyle Masterson
- He's the town's sheriff and Jo's father. He is not enthusiastic about Danny's presence from the beginning and tries to prevent the contact between Jo and Danny.

At the end of August 2012, the US television broadcaster ABC Family commissioned the serial pilot Socio . In October 2012, Avan Jogia got the lead role of Danny Ryder . Maddie Hasson and Kylie Bunbury were previously cast for leading roles. Other leading roles landed Denise Richards as Danny's mother Karen and Kimberly Quinn in the role of Tess . Kathy Najimy and Gray Damon were cast in supporting roles.
In February 2013, ABC Family announced the production of a first season. The pilot was filmed in New York in October 2012 . Production for the first season started in early April 2013. The number of episodes in the first season was increased to a full season length at the end of July 2013.
In mid-August 2014, ABC Family announced the end of the series.

Charisma
The pilot episode was previewed on March 19, 2013 following the Pretty Little Liars season three finale . The official start of series production took place on June 11, 2013. After the eleventh episode on August 27, 2013, the series took a six-month break. The remaining episodes ran between February 11 and April 1, 2014.
