Alison, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are friends and form the hottest clique at their school, Rosewood High . After the leader Alison suddenly disappears at a slumber party, the friendship between the girls breaks apart. A year later, the four of them meet again and shortly thereafter receive harassing text messages from an unknown person named "A". Each message relates to the girl's “dirty” secrets that only Alison knew about herself. They therefore assume that the communication comes from Alison - but Alison's body is found shortly afterwards. The girls are now trying to find out who is really behind the strange abbreviation "A" and how this person was able to find out their secrets. In doing so, they discover that "A" seems to have knowledge of everything they do. And now he or she threatens to reveal their secrets.

Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer meanwhile suspect Ian, the husband of Spencer's sister Melissa, as Alison's killer, and try to prove this by all means. Spencer is targeted by the police. During their research, the four of them find a USB stick with videos in which the four friends with Alison can be seen and how someone is filming Toby and Jenna. With the help of a money handover in the forest, the friends want to prove that Ian is guilty. But Spencer, who had previously had a car accident with her sister, goes to church to get Melissa's cell phone and thus does not notice that the man who appears with the other three in the forest is an unknown person, Ian was paid. In the church, Spencer is almost killed by Ian who was waiting for her there. However, she is rescued by an initially unknown person who pushes Ian down the tower, whereupon Ian gets caught in a rope and no longer moves. When the police arrive, Ian has disappeared. As a result, the four are now suspects in a murder case.

season 2

In response to Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer testifying that they saw Ian die, their parents transfer them to therapist Dr. Anne Sullivan sent. For a while, it looks like Alison's brother Jason, who lives back in his parents' house, is hiding Ian and Spencer fears that her pregnant sister Melissa is secretly keeping in touch with Ian. But then Ian's body is found and a suicide note in which he confesses to Alison's murder. Emily quickly finds out that Ian's confession is made up of text messages from "A" and so the four girls do not know whether Ian was actually the killer. The four tell Dr. Sullivan from "A" after news tormented Emily. After seeing Dr. Sullivan told about "A", she disappears and the four receive text messages to find her. But before that, Spencer has to break up with Toby, Hanna ruin her father's wedding and blackmail Aria Jackie, Ezra's ex-fiancée. Emily is sent by "A" to a barn where she is locked in and passed out from car exhaust fumes. Someone pulls her out and outside she sees Alison. Some time later, Aria, Spencer and Hanna find her and a shovel lying next to the barn. You receive a message from "A" with coordinates and start looking for this place in the forest. When they start at the point with the shovel according to Dr. To search for Sullivan, they find only a mask and are arrested by the police shortly afterwards. The shovel turns out to be the murder weapon that killed Alison. While doing community hours for evasion evasion, the four A's try to outsmart. Emily, Aria, Spencer and Hanna pretend they have fallen out and "A" falls for it. "A" offers Emily a deal and she agrees to set a trap for "A". Upon delivery, Emily reveals that she has absolutely nothing against "A" in her hand. "A" tries to run away and also manages, although the four girls are chasing her. When they go back to the car furiously, they find “A ”'s cell phone there. Caleb is supposed to crack the cell phone and after a long search he finds a picture of the dolls that "A" sent them. Aria is actually house arrested because she confessed to her parents that she was with Ezra and they reacted angrily. Aria's father even threatens to report Ezra to the police, but Aria's mother stops him. Aria misses Ezra and meets with an old friend in the theater, which Ezra also has tickets for. They don't get around to talking, however, as the old friend realizes that she has feelings for Ezra. Emily is doing her community hours on the helpline at the time and receives a phone call confessing that he did something bad the night the girls met with "A". Emily hears it's Lucas and Spencer, Aria and Emily think he's "A". Meanwhile, Hanna is planning a birthday party for Caleb at Spencer's parents' lake house. While preparing, Spencer notices that the picture of the dolls that Caleb found on “A ”'s cell phone was taken in the attic of the house by the lake. On the evening of the party, Lucas and Hanna drive across the lake to prepare the fireworks for the celebration. In the middle of the lake, Lucas wants to say something to Hanna, but Hanna pushes him into the lake because she feels threatened by him. Hanna tries to swim away and comes to the bank where the party guests are waiting for her. The next evening, Lucas breaks into Hanna's house and wants to talk to her. Caleb arrives and Lucas admits that he lost Caleb's money while betting on the supposed evening when the girls met "A". He gives some of the money back to Caleb. Caleb continues searching for files on "A" 's cell phone and finds a video of Garrett, Jenna and Ian meeting in Alison's room. He also finds a picture with a fake ID of Alison with brown hair. However, he is suspicious and does not want Hanna to find out that he is looking for the videos. However, Hanna finds out and is quite disappointed at first, also from her friends. In the evening Caleb comes over to see her and she tells him some of the secrets. Meanwhile, Emily's mother comes back and meets with Emily and Maya in the restaurant, but Maya only talks about the rehab camp and ruins the evening. The next day she apologizes to Emily for it. Aria secretly meets with Ezra, with whom she has reconciled, but tells her parents that she is seeing her kindergarten friend Holden. Spencer breaks up with Toby to protect him, and he leaves town. Hanna's father moves to Rosewood with his new wife and daughter Kate and a nude picture of Kate is sent to all classmates from Hanna's cell phone. The next day is Truth Day at the school and the headmaster decides that Hanna and Kate have to go into a group. That evening there is a big argument between them and Hanna lets Caleb hack her cell phone to find out who the sender is. Meanwhile, Spencer finds out that Jason is her half-brother. Aria argues with Holden because he doesn't want to tell her what he's doing during their meetings with Ezra. Emily breaks into the principal's office with Mona to blackmail the headmaster and get her back on the swim team. It turns out that Hanna didn't send the picture at all, but that it was Kate herself. That night, a number called back by the four who was in Alison's jacket calls back. The person calling wants to clarify some questions. When everyone is sleeping in the dormitory, "A" sneaks over them. Shortly before the second season finale, you see a scene in which Jenna thanks and turns out that she can see again.

In the season finale, the girls are invited to a masked ball in which they try to unmask "A". There is talk of a black swan. Spencer asks Mona to drive her to a motel, where she finds "A" 's hiding place. A little later, Mona is revealed as "A". She tries to push Spencer off a cliff. As it turns out, however, Mona did not act alone, but there is a whole group called the "A-Team" behind it. Mona is admitted to a psychiatric hospital. When all four get to Emily's home, there is a crowd in front of her house. It turns out that Maya's body was found.

season 3

The girls spend the summer separately, after which their final school year begins. Alison's body disappears from her grave. Mona, who was admitted to the Radley Psychiatry, is regularly secretly visited by Hanna. Nevertheless, they receive more messages from "A", which increasingly endanger the lives of the girls. They find out that Jenna can see again but, out of fear, kept it quiet until her birthday. A young man named Lyndon James, who pretends to be Maya's cousin Nate, kidnaps Emily and Paige and tries to kill them. However, it turns out that he killed Maya out of jealousy. Emily can overwhelm him and accidentally kills him in the process. Aria finds out that Ezra has a son, which puts their relationship to the test. Mona is released from the psychiatric ward and starts threatening the girls again. In the Halloween episode, Aria is kidnapped by "A" in the party train and locked in a box next to the murdered Garrett. Garrett was murdered because he wanted to tell the girls what he saw the night Alison went missing. When two aces in lady-of-heart costumes try to push Aria off the train, she stabs one of them with a screwdriver. Later you see Mona tending to a wound on Jason. In an attack on Hanna, a member of the "A-Team" loses a key. When he tries to get it back, Toby is unmasked by Spencer as part of the "A-Team". Spencer is not allowed to tell her friends that Toby is a member of the "A-Team" because "A" threatens that someone close to her will be killed. When she does, Spencer chases Mona to keep her from killing anyone. She then discovers Toby's body. She is admitted to Radley when she is found completely broken up and unresponsive. Nothing is found where she thinks she has seen the corpse, Toby is also still alive and he has only faked Mona to be part of the "A-Team" to protect Spencer. A lead leads the girls to "Red Coat", which seems to be the leader of the "A-Team". The girls think it's Alison. Hanna's mother runs over Detective Wilden; When she comes back to the scene of the accident, however, it has disappeared without a trace.

Season 4

Detective Wilden is found dead in his car. Mona, who is concerned about the girls, wants to find out with them who “Red Coat” is. Mona tells the girls that Wilden and Melissa are the ladies of the heart. However, she does not know who killed Wilden. Meanwhile, Aria worries about the breakup with Ezra, while Paige asks Emily to go to Stanford University with her . Emily hesitates at first, but then agrees.

Mrs. DiLaurentis gives Hanna a talking parrot, which Alison spent a lot of time with while she was with her grandmother. Spencer notices that he is singing a phone number all the time. After they have deciphered this, nobody answers the line and the bird is gone. They discover a mask in Alison's clothes that looks exactly like Alison. On this mask there is an address to which you are going. In addition to the masks from Alison, you will also find a mask from Melissa which you put in her suitcase. When Melissa finds the mask, she drives to the makeup artist and destroys all of the Melissa masks.

After an attack on Mona, in which Aria realizes how helpless she would be in the event of an attack, she takes a self-defense course. Your trainer, Jake, is the same as Holdens. There is a kiss during a private lesson.

Meanwhile, Spencer learns from Toby that he has handed the motor home to "A" to find out if his mother really committed suicide.

Hanna's mother behaves more and more suspiciously, so that Hanna also becomes aware. Together with Spencer, Toby tries to find out what really happened to his mother. The file he got from "A" says his mother committed suicide. But Toby doesn't think so. He speaks to his mother's former doctor who tells him to keep his mother away from this blonde girl. Aria realizes she's not ready for a relationship with Jake, but gets back together with him later.

Hanna finds a pistol in her mother's closet. Meanwhile, Spencer and Emily go to college and have a party afterward. When Spencer is looking for Emily at the party, she finds a kind of bunker in a fraternity house, to whose phone the parrot's number leads. Hanna tries to bury the pistol on campus, but is caught by the police. Her mother is sent to prison because she is believed guilty of shooting Wilden.

Aria's mother wants to go to Austria , but Mike won't let her go. Aria argues with her brother Mike so her mother can walk and they move closer together. Spencer drives Toby to Ravenswood, where they try to speak to Mrs. Grunwald, which does not produce the desired results. Caleb and Toby team up to find out more about "Red Coat". Hanna plans to confess the murder of savages so that her mother can be released. But Mona thwarted her plan.

Mona mistakenly turns herself in to the police and is sent back to Radley. Shortly thereafter, a witness appears who was present on the night Detective Wilden was shot and tells the police that Mrs. Marin drove away and Detective Wilden was only shot afterwards.

When she tries to hurt Emily, Aria chases Red Coat, it's Cece. After a fight, the girls think Cece is dead, but she disappears. Meanwhile, Spencer chases another "Red Coat" who leads them to "A's" hiding place, where all information about the girls and Alison is. The girls find out that Alison is still alive and finally want to meet her at a party in Ravenswood. On the way to the party they meet Mrs. Grundwald, who tells them that she rescued Alison from the earth, but Alison has disappeared. She says the girls should give up looking for her.

In "A's" hiding place, Ezra can be seen angry in a black suit.

When they arrive at the Ravenswood party, the girls look for Alison. Caleb is also on the way to Ravenswood and meets Miranda, who has lost her parents, and is now on the way to her uncle in Ravenswood. The four friends are separated in a tunnel. Hanna is locked in a phone booth in a large villa and then rescued by Miranda. Spencer is attacked by "A", falls with his head on the edge of the table and passes out, but she is found by Emily and Aria. Miranda, Caleb and Hanna find a way out, and Miranda finds a grave with a picture of her on it and "Miranda Collins" written on it. After Spencer had a problem with the car, Ezra stopped by and took the girls home. There they see that Alison is alive and that she is fleeing from someone. Caleb, who stays with Miranda in Ravenswood to help her find her uncle, finds a grave with her on which Caleb is depicted and his name is engraved. Caleb and Hanna split up and he goes back to Ravenswood. It turns out that Spencer was drugged the night Alison disappeared. When she takes it again and her parents find out about her, she has to go to a rehabilitation clinic. The girls meet Alison, who tells them what happened the night she disappeared. As the police are looking for the missing girls, a search party is on their way. The five girls flee to the roof of a skyscraper when "A" tries to shoot the girls. But Ezra saves the five, but he is shot. The girls are screaming for help. A few episodes earlier, Ezra and Aria split up after she discovered his secret book about Alison. In the end, Jessica DiLaurentis is buried by "A".

Season 5

In the first episode, the five girls are still in New York. Ezra is admitted to the hospital where he is fighting for his life. Meanwhile, the girls try to lure "A" away from Ezra, which they succeed in the beginning, but "A" is one step ahead of them again and surprises Alison, Emily, Spencer and Hanna on a playground with a flash mob, in which countless numbers appear out of nowhere "A's" appear. In the meantime, Aria is with Ezra in the hospital and tries to stay informed about his condition. Finally, Shana appears, who was allegedly sent by Alison to keep an eye on Aria, who is standing completely beside her. When Aria wakes up after a short sleep in the waiting room, Shana has disappeared and when she asks about Ezra, she learns that he is already in the recovery room. Once there, she sees Shana standing in his room, but sees no danger. When she reaches for Ezra's hand, Ezra opens his eyes briefly, but when he recognizes Shana, he begins to cramp and Aria is pushed out of the room. Shana is no longer present at this point. After the incident with the A-pack, the other four girls retreat to a theater owned by Ezra's family. Alison still knows it from the time she was with Ezra. There they try to sleep on the stage props. When everyone is asleep, Alison is woken up by CeCe and the two meet with Noel in a diner, where CeCe gives Vivian Darkbloom's passport and the plane ticket that was actually intended for Ali. However, she decides that CeCe needs this freedom ticket more than she does. Alison's return to the theater does not go undetected. Emily demands answers that Ali is reluctant to give her. It is confirmed that CeCe killed Wilden. In the hospital, Ezra finally regains her senses and tells Aria who "A" is. She rushed out of the hospital to warn her friends. However, "A" was faster. It is Shana who is now standing with the gun in front of the girls in the theater. She wants revenge for Jenna, with whom she is in love and who lost her sight because of Alison. Aria sneaks up from behind, reaches for a Reqisite (a shotgun), draws Shana's attention and pushes her away with the shotgun. Shana falls awkwardly from the stage and breaks her neck. She dies instantly. Relief and shock spread among the girls, especially Alison, who was friends with Shana from childhood, and Aria, who cannot deal with what she did.

Over the course of the next few episodes, the girls try to get used to the new situation at home, as Alison is back now and her parents and the police have many questions. Contrary to what had been agreed, Ali told the police that she had been kidnapped and held hostage for two years because she received a mysterious text message and wanted to protect Aria. Mona also builds an army against Alison to prepare for her return to school. In addition to Lucas and Paige, Melissa is also in this army. Paige isn't sure what to make of the situation, however, and her love and loyalty to Emily eventually lead her to tell her about what a dead rat in her locker will bring her. Alison's return home triggers an identity crisis in Hanna. She no longer knows who she is, changes her clothes and sometimes dyes her hair, which is now short, black. The crisis becomes perfect when Caleb reappears, ending the relationship between Hanna and Travis - even if unintentionally. Spencer no longer knows who to trust, and when the body of Mrs. DiLaurentis, Alison's mother, is found, she believes her father murdered her. Her parents split up when her mother learns that Mr. Hastings lied about his and Melissa's whereabouts at the time of Jessica DiLaurentis' murder. At the beginning of the season you learn that Melissa has a secret that will be solved in the mid-season finale. She buried Bethany Young believing it was Alison. She wanted to protect Spencer thinking Spencer had killed Ali, but the body was actually Bethany.

Toby applies to Rosewood Police Academy and is accepted. Aria is still struggling with the death of Shana and her feelings about Ezra, because his near death has shown her how she feels about him and what else she would like to tell him. The two spend a lot of time together and he tries to make her feel guilty about Shana's death. During this time for two there are always little niceties and touches until they finally kiss and sleep together in the hundredth episode. After that night, Aria regrets this slip and makes it clear that things are not going to be the way they used to be. Emily's old feelings also come up when she knows Alison is close by again and she admits that she reciprocates Em's feelings, but was afraid to show them. When Emily then stayed with her, they sleep together. However, this affair does not last long, because Mona follows Ali to church. There she slaps Mona in the face, which Alison immediately returns with an extended fingernail. What she doesn't know is that Mona is filming the argument and then showing a cut version around the school in which she looks like it all came from Ali. At the end of the hundredth episode, the name of the dead who lies in Alison's grave is also published. His name is Bethany Young. Shortly after the release, Toby's family home explodes, slightly injuring his father. Then Alison, Emily, Hanna, Aria and Spencer receive a message from “A” that says, “Do you miss me you bitches? -A ".

In the following years, the four friends increasingly distrust Alison and finally team up with Mona, who expresses the suspicion that Alison is "A". Emily and Paige get back together, while Hanna and Caleb keep falling into a deep hole of alcohol. There is also a new girl on the swim team, Sydney. She befriends Emily and asks her for swimming advice. It later becomes clear that Sydney is close friends with Jenna. Toby is in a car accident that breaks his foot. Mona tells the girls that she has evidence that Alison is "A" and is killed by an unknown person shortly afterwards. Spencer is arrested on suspicion of the murder of Bethany Young and is later released on bail. In the Christmas episode, Hanna and Spencer break into Alison's house to look for evidence linking Alison to Mona's murder and diverting suspicion from Spencer. In the next episode, Spencer is released and Alison is arrested. After Mike is suspected by the girls of having something to do with Mona's death, he confesses to Aria that Mona's plan was to make it look like Ali killed her. Until the penultimate episode of the fifth season, you won't find out whether Mona is really dead and Mike's story is true. Ali's attorney thinks it is the best way to confess to Mona's murder. Alison is unsure whether to accept the deal as she protests her innocence. However, she decides to go into the deal later, but when Hanna is arrested as her "accomplice" as well, she refuses and wants to wait for the trial. But the judges decide to lock Alison for good, together with Spencer, Aria and Emily, also as Ali's "accomplices". On the way to the prison, the van containing the four main characters is stopped: "A" kidnaps the girls with the help of sleeping gas. You wake up later in his human-sized dollhouse. Their rooms were copied by "A", but they cannot escape because this doll's house is underground. In addition, only "A" from his hiding place can open and close all doors. When the girls were still trapped in their rooms, a mysterious voice called them to another room where a blonde girl with an Alison mask was playing the piano. It's about Mona, who has to pretend to be Alison on the orders of "A". In a dream Spencer manages to get “A's” name out: “A” means Charles. In the meantime, Spencer's parents learn of "A's" machinations from Alison, who is in jail. They let Caleb, Toby and Ezra help them track down the girls. Caleb is called to the station by Tanner, as he is suspected of having helped the girls escape from prison, but there Spencer's parents, along with Caleb, tell that the girls are innocent and that there is someone who gives the girls much credit tries. With the help of Caleb's hacking skills, the police can track down the lost van and "A's" / Charles' warehouse. On the surveillance monitors in his hiding place, they discover that the girls have actually been kidnapped and that Mona is still alive. This means that Alison is innocently in jail. So now Spencer's parents and the police know about "A". When "A" asks the 5 friends to stage and prepare a past prom, Spencer and Mona secretly build a device with which they can switch off the electricity for a long time in order to escape. However, their idea only half works: They manage to turn off the power and escape from A / Charles, but when they find the way outside, they see that there is a large, electric fence around them and they are in the middle of nowhere are located. During this escape attempt, Spencer finds a room in which a video is played in which you can see Mrs DiLaurentis, a little girl (presumably Alison) in her hands and two smaller boys playing around her. They are believed to be twins, one is supposed to be Jason, Alison's older brother, and the other Charles / A. The boys are definitely Alison's brothers, as Jessica D. tells them to kiss their sister (who is probably Alison). Charles enters the room and also has a brief eye contact with Spencer (but he is wearing a mask) but Charles disappears immediately after Mona appears.

Season 6

First half

Aria, Hanna, Emily, Spencer and Mona spend 1½ days in front of the fenced-in exit as punishment for trying to escape. As they head back down the underground passages, A / Charles drops a gas bomb that incapacitates the five girls while he takes Mona with him. After the other four wake up in a morgue, Mona, who had to slip back into the role of Alison, brings them medicine and drink. Everyone has to go back to their rooms, where they are further tortured as punishment for trying to escape. The torture consists in the girls having to choose which of the others will be tormented. If they do not do this within a certain time, they will be tortured themselves.

Meanwhile, Alison, Ezra, Toby and Caleb try to track down the kidnapped girls and carry out a plan with Alison as a decoy. They want to set up a trap for Andrew, who has also disappeared and is considered a suspect, in which Alison, equipped with a tracking device, offers himself in exchange for the welfare of her friends. A, who finds out about the offer and sees no further use for Mona, throws it into a pit while Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer have to prepare everything for Alison's arrival.

While Alison, Caleb and Ezra find the place where the girls are being held, the remaining girls have the opportunity to get into a secret room of Charles, where they burn all his belongings and trigger the alarm. The four girls manage to free Mona from the pit and ultimately find an exit to the surface, where they are received by Alison, Toby, Ezra and Caleb. The missing Sarah Harvey is also discovered by the police down in the basement. Emily asks Alison about Charles DiLaurentis, but she doesn't know him. Spencer researches Charles and finds out that when Jason was little he had an "imaginary" boyfriend whom he affectionately called "Charlie." In the evening Alison asks her father who Charles is, but he replies that there is no Charles and that there has never been one in her family. Meanwhile, Aria and Ezra find out that Andrew, who has been identified as a supposed "A", is adopted. Hanna makes an appointment with Dr. Sullivan and the other three, who were locked in the Dollhouse, but the four of them have to leave early because Emily receives a video call from "A" in which "A" stands and threatens with a knife behind Sarah, who is sleeping in Emily's bed murder them if the girls do not leave the practice within 30 seconds.

Mr. DiLaurentis eventually explains to Alison and Jason that Charles was born 15 months before Jason and that something was wrong with him from the start. One afternoon he put Ali in the bathtub and turned on the hot water. Mr. DiLaurentis heard Ali's screams and was able to save her in time. The parents then decided to send Charles to the Radley, as they did not want to put Alison and Jason in danger. There he is said to have committed suicide at the age of 16. Ali and Jason find Charles' tombstone in their dead aunt Carol's garden. Over time, the girls find out that Lesli and Mona met in Radley. Lesli was even in a room with Bethany, and she was also a patient there at the time Charles was sent to Radley. Jason has a flashback during a conversation between Ali and Jason. Shortly after his accident in which he crashed in the elevator, he wanted to rest for a few days in his aunt Carol's house. Jessica, however, did not want to allow this under any circumstances. Jason heard noises coming from the house, but Jessica said it was just the wind. After Ali showed the other girls the tombstone, everyone is sure that Charles is not "A", but that Lesli may have taken over his game.

A few days later, Mr. D receives a card on which Charles writes that he will be coming home for his birthday. Then Mr. D drives to the supposed grave of Charles and digs for his corpse. Jason also receives an invitation card to his older brother's birthday party. Jason really wants to see Charlie aka Charles. He makes an appointment with him alone, not knowing that Spencer, Aria, Emily and Hanna, together with Toby on behalf of Alison, are closely following them. Charles does not know about this, because he trusts the tracking devices that he has implanted in them - not knowing that they have already removed them. Separately from the pursuit of the other four, Ali, who was previously brought to safety by her father, also chases Charles with Mona. When Alison calls the police and tells them about Charles, there is a shooting, but Charles escapes. In the evening, Ali and Jason find a video that shows Charles with Alison and Jason on his birthday, next to it is a note that says: "I wanted to trust you." The five Liars are not allowed to attend their school's prom for safety reasons, so their parents hold a private party in Spencer's backyard, which the girls are not very enthusiastic about. Alison is on her way to see Spencer when she receives a message from A threatening her. Immediately she makes her way to the ball. The other girls learn that Alison has illegally gone to the ball and go there to look for her. "A" lures Alison out of the hall and kidnaps her. The other four and Sara Harvey find Alison's phone. Mona shows up shortly afterwards and admits that she has been following Alison for the past few days and has now found out where "A" is headquartered. The six then drive to the address mentioned and, with Sara's help, arrive in a room that Hanna calls "A's brain". This is where “A's” all surveillance originates. Sara stays outside, however.

The five see live footage of Alison locked in a cell where Mr. DiLaurentis and Jason are passed out. "A" is also in the cell and shows itself without a mask: "A" / Charles is CeCe Drake. She tells Alison her story: Even when they were little, Charles liked to dress up as a girl, which his father disliked. Charles loved his sister Alison dearly and was her personal minder when she was a baby. But after the incident in which Charles lays his sister in the full bathtub believing that he is doing her something good, Mr. DiLaurentis convinces his wife that it is best to send Charles to Radley. Mrs. DiLaurentis lets this happen with a heavy heart and visits him as often as possible. The year he turns twelve, his mother gives him a yellow dress for Christmas, and he happily shows it to Bethany Young on the roof of the institution. However, Marion Cavanaugh, Toby's mother, enters the roof and Charles hides so as not to be seen in her dress. Bethany pushes Mrs. Cavanaugh off the roof and then accuses Charles. She is believed and Mrs. DiLaurentis pays the police to make the case look like suicide. Charles is then put on drugs. When he was sixteen, his mother helped him to undergo surgery and Charles died and "Charlotte" was born. She is allowed to take classes at a school, but Charlotte is disappointed. One day she decides to go to Rosewood to watch her family and meets Jason. She starts a relationship with him as "CeCe Drake" and even goes on vacation with the whole family. She is not recognized as Charles / Charlotte by anyone except her mother, who knows about the operation but is still not enthusiastic about the relationship, and learns from her mother that she told her husband that Charles committed suicide when he was sixteen . Still, they have a nice vacation and Ali and they get closer (amicably). However, Bethany learns that Mrs. D is having an affair with her father and then wants to harm Mrs. D. She flees Radley with Charlotte's clothes, but Charlotte kills her in the garden of the DiLaurentis house. However, it turns out that it was not Bethany who was killed by Mona shortly before - believing it was Alison - but Ali. Charlotte / CeCe is shocked and apologizes to her mother while she buries Alison's body. Charlotte is then locked up again in Radley, where she later meets Mona. She thinks Charlotte / CeCe is Alison and tells her about the game that she played with the four girls. Charlotte is fascinated by it and takes on Mona's role as A. She meets the four girls in Rosewood and begins to hate them because they are obviously happy about Alison's death. Charlotte / CeCe used the girls as bait and realizes that Alison is not dead at all. She meets with Mona and Hanna and later decides on one of Hanna's clothes. However, Mona makes it look like she is Hanna's boss. Hanna confronts Mona and asks her to correct this, which Mona immediately does. Spencer receives an award for visiting Toby. She receives a letter from the former Radley Sanatorium that says "To my child". Inside there is also a piece of the puzzle that she has to insert in the middle of the game board. The others are pissed off that they decided not to play it. Hanna tries to destroy the game, but a video appears of them burying Elliot and AD writes that they cannot stop the game. At the end of the episode, you see Jenna saying to someone, "You wanted to tell me about the game". She then receives a text in Braille. The Liars discuss whether Jenna could have sent them the game. Emily wants to tell the police about the game. At Rosewood High, Emily meets Addison, a student who reminds her of Alison. Emily forbids her to take part in a meeting of the swim team and then subliminally threatens her. Addison then overhears a conversation between Ali and Emily about the pregnancy. Ali thinks she is pregnant from her ex-husband Elliot. However, during the game, the Liars find out that Ali has been planted in Welby Emily's donated eggs that have been stolen.

Aria is pressured by AD. AD threatens to jail Ezra for his relationship with Aria if Aria does not join the AD team. Aria arranges a meeting with AD and Sydney appears. However, it quickly becomes clear that Sydney is not AD alone. In the meantime, the Liars suspect that Lucas is behind it, as they get a photo from Ted, who is Charlotte's real father, in which they see Charles and Lucas together as children. They also find a comic that Lucas and Charles wrote together and that gave the original idea for the A-Game. The Liars confront Lucas, but Lucas is innocent and just didn't want the Liars to find the comic. Aria, now part of the AD team, destroys Emily and Ali's child's room. After Aria realizes how much she is damaging her friends with her orders from AD, she wants to end the matter once and for all and meet with the "right" AD. Meanwhile, Mona expresses the suspicion that Aria could be part of the AD team and plays a phone call to Emily, Alison, Spencer and Hanna as evidence in which Aria and AD discuss their meeting that evening. As Aria waits for AD in a playground, her friends appear and confront her. Aria explains that she only joined the AD team to protect Ezra. But her friends, especially Spencer, cannot understand her decision. Spencer later forgives her because she was in a similar situation to Aria when she joined the A Team for a short time.

Caleb and Ezra follow the signal of the game to Mona's apartment. The Liars now suspect that Mona is AD. Caleb, Hanna and Spencer follow Mona to a bar where Caleb confronts her. But Mona runs into the toilet and when the others run after her, they find a secret passage there. Aria tries to face the police for the murder of Elliot, but Ezra stops her. Hann drives back to Rosewood, where she finds Mona in the church. Mona tells her about the night Charlotte was killed. When she met Charlotte and actually wanted to push her off the bell tower when she didn't, Charlotte attacks her and when Mona defends herself, Charlotte hits a pipe with her neck and she dies. She is so caught in the memory that she tries to push Hanna from the bell tower, but Caleb saves her. The Liars are arrested by the police, but Mary Drake appears at the police station and confesses to the murder of Elliot Rollins, so that Tanner will let Spencer and the other Liars go.

The series finale takes place a year later. Life of the liars went on. Ezra and Aria are getting married soon, Emily and Alison have twins, Spencer gets on better with Melissa, Hanna and Caleb are professionally successful and Mona has just been released from Welby, where she has been undergoing therapy again. But the question of who AD is still remains unanswered. While the Liars, Toby, Ezra and Caleb party together, Melissa can be seen in a black hoodie. But it is Mona who is wearing a Melissa mask.

After the rehearsal dinner for Aria's wedding, Mona appears at Spencer's and kidnaps her. When Spencer wakes up, she sees Mary Drake and a girl who looks just like her. She turns out to be Spencer's twin sister. She knew neither Spencer, nor Mary, nor Charlotte. She was adopted and didn't find out about Spencer until she happened upon Wren in a bar. She became AD because she was jealous of Spencer, because Spencer had family and good friends, and she had fallen in love with Toby. In a flashback, it is explained in which situations Alex already pretended to be Spencer, for example when she kissed Toby. She decides to kill Spencer and assume her identity. She locks Spencer and Mary Drake up and goes to Aria's wedding in Spencer's place. Mary tells Spencer that Alex was born a few minutes after Spencer and was adopted by an English couple.

Aria's wedding is canceled because Ezra does not appear. He was kidnapped by Alex and locked up next to Spencer. Alex tells Spencer that Noel, Jenna, and Sydney were also on the AD team. Wren put Alex up with Charlotte and Elliot, and Charlotte tells her about the A-Game. It also comes out that Wren is the father of Alison's and Emily's baby.

When Jenna meets Alex, posing as Spencer, she realizes something is wrong. Toby has also become suspicious by now. Mona is now telling the Liars the truth. Wren had visited her in Radley and wanted to kill her, but Mona helped him get Mary out of jail. Mona kept working for AD trying to find out who she is. Ezra and Spencer manage to get out of their cells, but they are still trapped in the basement of the house. Mona has found out that Alex is holding them both in the house that Toby built. The others rush there. Alex and Spencer fight there. Toby draws his gun, he just doesn't know who is who. He asks about Spencer's favorite poem, whereupon the real Spencer immediately begins to quote it. The police arrive and arrest Alex.

The next day, Aria and Ezra's wedding takes place. In a conversation afterwards it is revealed that Hanna is pregnant. It later emerges that the policeman was a friend of Mona's. In the credits you can see Mona holding Alex and Mary in a room in the basement of her doll shop in Paris.

After Hanna was caught stealing several times, she should have gone to jail, but Ashley started an affair with Detective Wilden at the beginning of the first season in order to let the ads fall under the table. In the middle of the first season she got money problems and stole money from one of her customers, but this can be corrected. She briefly begins an affair with Hanna's father, which she ends again after she receives the invitation to his wedding. In the third season, Ashley begins to meet the pastor from Rosewood. After an evening in a restaurant, she drives up to Detective Wilden, who, however, survives. When Wilden is shot she is in New York, but she was in Rosewood that night, where she asked her ex-husband for a large sum of money and stole his gun. Hanna is initially of the firm conviction that her mother is guilty. Eventually Hanna is suspected of murder when the pistol she found on her mother's is buried. Ashley arrives in custody, but Travis' testimony exoners her and the charges against her are dropped. Then she works for Jessica DiLaurentis. In season six, Ashley opened a hotel where the Radley was previously.

Byron Montgomery:

Byron is the father of Aria and Mike and the husband of Ella. Byron is a professor at Hollis College. Before the family moved to Iceland, he had an affair with one of his students. When Ella finds out, she moves out. After a few weeks, the two start dating again and Ella moves in with them again. At first they are happy, but when they find out about the relationship between Aria and Ezra, the crisis keeps falling, because Ella sees things more relaxed and Byron wants to forbid Aria everything. Eventually, he offers Ezra a promotion in New Orleans so he can't see Aria again. He also ensures that Ezra is released, which causes another argument between him and Ella. Eventually they get divorced. Byron stays in the house and Ella moves out again. He starts dating Meredith again at the beginning of the third season. However, when this Aria administered sleeping pills and held her captive, it was all over. He's disappointed in himself because he couldn't protect Aria. Byron remarries Ella. He asks Aria to give the speech and to marry them off, which she does.

Pam Fields:

Pam is the Conservative mother of Emily and the wife of Wayne who moves to live with him in Texas. At first she has big problems with her daughter's homosexuality. After a while, mother and daughter get closer again. She returns to Rosewood at the end of Season 2.

Maya St. Germain:

Maya has just moved to Rosewood. Everyone knows her because she moves into the old house of Alison DiLaurentis, which has disappeared. Maya and Emily become friends quickly because they are neighbors. The two begin a relationship, which Emily's mother is not very happy about. Pam finds drugs in Maya's backpack and tells her parents about it. They send them to a youth camp. She comes back and has contact with Emily again. The two get back together, and Maya confesses to Emily that she is bisexual. After drugs have been found on Maya again, which she claims to be older, she flees to San Francisco . After a while she gets in touch with Emily and asks her not to tell her parents anything, which Emily does. At the end of the second season she is found dead, with the four girls assuming that "A" is the murderer. However, it is later revealed that Lyndon James, posing as Maya's cousin, killed her. He had fallen in love with Maya, who was with Emily at the time.

Mona Vanderwaal:

Mona used to want to be in Alison's clique, later she's Hanna's best friend. She has been with Noel since season two, but he is leaving. After she also gets messages from "A", she turns to Hanna and this finally to Aria, Emily and Spencer. In the second season finale it is revealed that Mona is "A", but there are other people behind it, the so-called "A-Team". Because of her attempted murder of Spencer, she is admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Since then, Hanna has been going to her again and again to get answers from her. But the supposedly believed "A" says nothing for the time being. A little later, Mona is released from Radley and goes back to Rosewood High. Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily don't trust her. When she suggests herself in Spencer's Academic decathlon team like Spencer as team captain, it is enough for Spencer because she thinks Mona just wants to terrorize her. Later it will be held in a competition and Mona will be team captain. A little later, Spencer is excluded from a competition. She drives to this with Wren and attacks Mona. Some time later she finally comes to the Radley, the same room Mona was in. Mona lets the girls in on "A's" secrets and tries to gain trust again. “Red coat” replaces her from her job as “A”. At the beginning of the fifth season, she founds a club of people who were bullied and insulted by Alison in order to take revenge on her. She is apparently killed by "A" in the summer finale of season 5. However, no corpse is found. In season 5B, however, we learn that Mona wanted to stage her own death to get "A's" trust and protect the 4 main characters. Briefly it is suspected that “A” tricked her and actually killed her after her death staging. In the season finale of Season 5, however, we learn that "A" has since kept her trapped in his life-size dollhouse and forced her to become Alison.

Caleb Rivers:

Hanna's friend. He was spying on Hanna to get money from Jenna. When he falls in love with Hanna, he breaks the deal with Jenna. Hanna ends the relationship with him anyway. After Ian's death, they finally get back together. His foster mother never really looked after him, which is why he eventually moved out. He makes some extra money by hacking cell phones. Later his birth mother contacts him and he moves to live with her in California. He now commutes back and forth between California and Rosewood. Since Hanna knows too many secrets about him, he has to part with her. After a while, however, Hanna tells him about "A". The two have a secret relationship so that he doesn't get hurt. Together with Emily, Spencer, Aria and Hanna, Caleb tries to fight "A", but is then shot. The perpetrator was Nate or Lyndon, who also admits to having killed Maya. After a fight with Emily, Caleb thinks he is dead. In the last resort, Nate / Lyndon shoots him, so that Caleb is transported to the hospital, but survives. He meets with Paige to protect the clique from "A". In the thirteenth episode of the fourth season, Hanna asks him to stay in Ravenswood, which he ultimately does. In the fifth season, he returns to Rosewood. He did have a drinking problem for a while, however, as a friend of his, Miranda, who also lost her parents, died. In the 2nd part of the 6th season he gets closer and closer to Spencer and the two eventually become a couple. A flashback shows that he and Hanna broke up after an argument. In the 20th episode he wants to help Hanna and the others to convict "A" and therefore goes to a motel room with Hanna. When she admits that she still loves him, the two get closer and kiss. Spencer and Caleb try to save their relationship, but they both realize that they have no future together. Spencer accuses him of loving him but that he only likes her. In the seventh season he gets back together with Hanna and becomes a father.
