Charlie Sheen (2012)

Charlie Sheen (* 3. September 1965 as Carlos Irwin Estévez in New York ) is an American actor , in particular through cinema comedies like The Major League and Hot Shots! - The mother of all films and sitcoms ( Two and a Half Men ) became known, which are completely in contrast to his initial quite serious roles, such as in Platoon or Wall Street .

Life

Charlie Sheen is the youngest son and the third of four children of the actor Martin Sheen (real name Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez), whose stage name Sheen he took over. His mother is the artist Janet Estévez (née Templeton). Sheen has two brothers, Emilio Estévez and Ramón Estévez , and a sister, Renée Estévez , who are all actors. He attended Santa Monica High School in California . Shortly before the final examination, however, he was expelled from school in 1983 because of poor grades and an unexcused absence. He graduated from high school in 2013 and was considering going to college .

Sheen made headlines several times for problems with alcohol and cocaine . Several rehab cures and stays in drug clinics interrupted his career. He has also been associated with call girls and escort agencies in the tabloids .

On November 17, 2015, Sheen stated on NBC's Today Show that he had contracted the HI virus and had found out about it about four years earlier. The later so-called "Charlie Sheen Effect" was held responsible for the fact that, immediately after this declaration, information on the HI virus, HIV prevention and HIV test procedures was increasingly sought and orders for HI test procedures for private users were almost lost doubled.

Film career

At the age of 13 he accompanied his father to the filming of the film Apocalypse Now and was so excited that he wanted to become an actor too. He made Super 8 films with his schoolmates Rob Lowe , Sean Penn and Chris Penn .

Sheen's film career began with a brief appearance alongside his father in the television film The Execution of the Soldier Slovik (1974), which is based on the story of the US Army soldier Eddie Slovik , played by Martin Sheen. His leading role in the award-winning anti-war film Platoon (1986) and his appearance with his father on Wall Street (1987) received a lot of attention . Both films were directed by Oliver Stone . Sheen made a brief appearance as a drug addict in a police station in Ferris Goes Blue . For this portrayal, he had not slept for 48 hours in order to portray his role and the drug withdrawal as authentically as possible. He played the scene alongside Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Gray , with whom he had his first lengthy film appearance in Die Rote Flut (1984).

He was best known for roles in movie comedies, such as in The Indians of Cleveland (1988) or on the side of his brother Emilio Estevez in Men at Work (1990). Perhaps his best-known role during this period was "Topper Harley" in the slapstick comedy Hot Shots in 1991 and 1993 ! - The mother of all films and its sequel, Hot Shots! The second attempt , in which numerous action and war films are parodied. In 2000 he took on the leading role previously occupied by Michael J. Fox in the ABC comedy series Chaos City (until 2002) and also took part in the third , fourth and fifth installments of the Scary Movie series in 2003, 2006 and 2013 , the younger Targeting horror film productions, continuing his slapstick tradition.

From season eight, Sheen earned $ 1.25 million per episode, according to the TV guide . That made him the highest-paid serial actor in the world.

In February 2011, production of the eighth series was discontinued after 16 of the originally planned 24 episodes after Sheen had again become suspicious of substance abuse and publicly insulted producer Chuck Lorre . On March 7, 2011, Warner Bros. Television announced the dismissal of Charlie Sheen. Shortly thereafter, he got the leading role in the television series Anger Management , which is loosely based on the 2003 film Die Angerprobe (with Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler in the leading roles). With FX , there was also a broadcaster that first aired the series on June 28, 2012.
