A Strange Sound is an American drama film directed by Martin Sheen from 1990 .
action
In order to get his discharge from the army in the 1960s, Bean got a tattoo on the back of his hand, which he violated military law. Instead of being released, he ends up in the prison of a barracks in West Germany, which is under the command of Sgt. McKinney. It is not easy for him here from the start - the other inmates are very hostile towards him, as is McKinney, who is having a war of nerves with Bean because he reminds him of his own son
criticism
"Well-intentioned, but woodenly staged film, the subject of which loses all power in the predictability and tensionlessness of the awkward dramaturgy."
“Martin Sheen's ('Apocalypse Now') directorial debut is a plea against abuse of power and racism in the US Army. Sheen's busy son Charlie ('Men at Work') plays the main part in the dramatic conflict between the rebellious soldier and his sadistic superior. Martin Sheen does not demonstrate the same sovereignty as a director as as an actor. Sometimes he has difficulties to process the interesting plot elements fluently into a gripping whole. "
