action

The astronomer Zane Zaminski and his colleague Calvin receive a signal from space that they can quickly identify as artificial and record. When Zaminski reported her discovery to his superior Phil Gordian, he was strangled and fired. The tape with the recording of the signal is destroyed by Gordian. With a mixture of well-founded suspicion and paranoia, Zane sets out to shed light on the strange processes.

After his former work colleague Calvin is murdered, Zane's search leads to scorching Mexico. There he met the climate researcher Ilana Green, who, like him, is curious about what is going on behind the walls of a hypermodern power plant in the middle of the desert. They come to the realization that the earth's atmosphere is artificially heated by an inexplicable phenomenon. Zane enters one of the power plants and sees the equipment that is used to change the earth's atmosphere and the aliens that operate the machines. At the same time, Ilana is murdered in her hotel room.

Zane now knows that it is aliens who have gained access to important offices worldwide in human form in order to transform the globe into a subtropical home for their species with the help of the greenhouse effect . Hunted down as a suspect for the murder of Ilana, Zane flees Mexico and returns to the United States. Together with his ex-girlfriend Char and the neighbor boy Kiki, he does everything possible to stop the aliens and save the world. With a clever trick he comes to a video tape in which Gordian confesses that the aliens want to conquer the earth.

Finally, in the Oro Valley Radio Observatory, the decisive battle between Zane and the aliens takes place. It turns out that Kiki is not human either. Char and Zane can neutralize the attackers and send Kiki back to his people with the message that they now know about them.

Finally, they feed the video evidence into the large television stations, which makes the activities of the aliens known worldwide.

Reviews

"Science fiction film with weak trick effects, which leaves the psychological tension potential of its story untapped and which becomes more and more entangled in logical breaks and explanations in the course of the plot."

continuation

After the first part was particularly popular with genre fans, the sequel The Second Arrival followed in 1998 , which in terms of plot, soundtrack and acting does not have the quality of its predecessor and has not nearly achieved its popularity. However, within these two years the special effects were significantly improved. Patrick Muldoon took on the leading role .
