Richard Schiff
Richard Schiff (born May 27, 1955 in Bethesda , Maryland ) is an American actor . He became known for the role of Toby Ziegler in the drama series The West Wing - In the Center of Power , for which he was awarded the Emmy TV Prize in 2000 .
Life
Schiff is the middle of three sons; his parents divorced when he was twelve years old. From 1975 Schiff studied acting at the City College of New York . He then began a career as a director, staging performances on Broadway , including a 1983 production with Angela Bassett , who had just graduated at the time. At this time he met his future wife Sheila Kelley , whom he married in 1996.
It was only later, in the mid-1980s, that Schiff overcame his fears, as he himself says, and tried his hand at acting. He impersonated roles in several television productions, which eventually brought Steven Spielberg's attention to him and cast him for his film Forgotten World: Jurassic Park . From then on, his career went steadily upwards: He received guest roles in various television series , for example in Ally McBeal , Picket Fences - Tatort Gartenzaun , New York Cops - NYPD Blue , Emergency Room - Die Notaufnahme , Chicago Hope - Terminus Hope , Practice - The lawyers and in Roswell . From 1999 to 2006 he played the lead role of communications director Toby Ziegler in the successful and critically acclaimed political drama The West Wing - In the center of power around the events of the White House .
