Ben Kalmen was a successful car dealer in New York. When he learns there are irregularities in his heart and his doctor wants to do more tests, his world changes. He never had the further examinations carried out because he was afraid of the results. He starts cheating on his wife, Nancy, who eventually divorces him. Fearing old age, he takes refuge in one-night stands with women who are far younger than him. In addition, he begins to cheat fellow traders and customers, for which he is eventually convicted and loses his trader license. He only escaped jail time because of a heavy fine.

When he is about to regain his trading license, he is supposed to accompany Allyson, the daughter of his current girlfriend Jordan Karsch, to the job interview at the university. On this trip he ends up in bed with Allyson. When Allyson informs her mother without further ado, Jordan puts Ben in front of the door and makes sure that he doesn't get his dealer license again and that he is economically at an end. Since Ben does not change his way of life, he still does not accept his age and is on the hunt for young women, his own daughter turns away from him. Now that he has lost everything, he begins to wait in the restaurant of his fellow student Jimmy.

As a warning to stay away from Allyson in the future, he is beaten up on her father's behalf. His ex-wife Nancy finally gives Ben the choice of accepting his age or continuing to chase after his youth. The film leaves its decision open.
