The US premiere of the series took place on January 8, 2012 on Showtime , in Germany it was first broadcast on November 29, 2012 on AXN . After that, the program was also broadcast on ZDFneo and on ZDF . The series comprises a total of 58 episodes in five seasons.

action

Marty Kaan, the protagonist and narrator of the series, is a successful management consultant at a large consulting firm. He is intelligent, eloquent and, as a businessman, absolutely coldly calculating. However, he does not try to advise his clients as sensibly as possible, but instead to win profitable customers and to make as much profit as possible. In order to get the contracts signed, he and his employees proceed in a completely unscrupulous manner and are largely cynical about the consequences of their own activities.

The viewer learns all of this in the episodes through Marty himself, who repeatedly breaks through the fourth wall , addresses the viewer directly and explains the actual core of the business and his work in mocking monologues.

Marty's crew consists of Clyde Oberholt and Doug Guggenheim, who are in constant professional and sexual competition, as well as Jeannie van der Hooven, who at first tries to distance herself from her colleagues, but sacrifices any doubts that arise to her ambition.

At the same time, the series tells of Marty's private life, in particular of his relationship with his pubescent son Roscoe and his father Jeremiah, with whom he lives together, and with his unstable ex-wife Monica, who is a management consultant at a competing company. Often Marty's sexual adventures also play a role, which he also enters into when closing deals.

Reviews

“[…] The TV series House of Lies accounts for management consultancies and is considered the best series start of the year in the USA. In times of permanent crisis, the topic couldn't be more topical or grateful. "

"[...] Maybe House of Lies is a series with characters the viewer shouldn't suffer in the first place - anti-heroes in a world of financial problems and 'I am the 1%' quotes from Occupy advocates."

“[...] House of Lies tells how management consultants create a positive image for companies that have driven small citizens to ruin - without the managers having to forego their bonus payments. It's not only cynical, it's real too. "
