The 2013 Critics' Choice Television Awards were presented by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) on June 10, 2013 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills , California . The nominations were announced on May 22, 2013. Programs that were broadcast in prime time in the period from June 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013 were taken into account . In the United States, the ceremony was streamed live on the Ustream website . The event was moderated by Retta .

Regardless of the actual presentation, the awards in the category Most Promising New Series (in the original Most Exciting New Series ) were presented on June 3, 2013 .

The most popular nominations were the second season of the television multipartist American Horror Story , originally known as American Horror Story: Asylum , and the sixth season of the comedy series The Big Bang Theory , each of which received 6 nominations. For The Big Bang Theory , it is in the category Best Comedy Series already the third nomination in a row. American Horror Story , as it consists of several completed mini- series , can be nominated several times in the TV film or mini-series category, and was considered for the second time in the best film or mini-series category . The international co-production Top of the Lake , which is about the disappearance of a 12-year-old pregnant girl, and Parks and Recreation ( NBC ) have each received 5 nominations .

Furthermore, The Americans with Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys in the role of a Soviet KGB couple living in Washington , the drama series Breaking Bad , Game of Thrones and Good Wife , as well as the comedy series Louie and New Girl each received four nominations. All six compete with each other next to Downton Abbey , Homeland , The Middle and Veep - The Vice President for the award as the best comedy or drama series.
