Catherine Elizabeth "Cat" Deeley (born October 23, 1976 in West Bromwich ) is an English television presenter , actress , singer and model .

From 1998 to 2002 she hosted the children's program SMTV Live and its spin-off chart show CD: UK . In 2001 she won a children's BAFTA. She also hosted the Fame Academy on BBC and the 2004 Brit Awards . Since 2006 Deeley has hosted the American dance show So You Think You Can Dance , for which she was nominated four times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program.

Since 2003 she has been the patron of London's Great Ormond Street Hospital , which provides medical care for sick children. In December 2009 she was appointed UNICEF ambassador.

Beginnings

Deeley was born in West Bromwich and grew up in Sutton Coldfield and Great Barr . She attended Grove Vale Junior School followed by Dartmouth High School in Great Barr, where she played clarinet in the Sandwell Youth Concert Band. She then went to high school at Bishop Vesey's Grammar School in Sutton Coldfield.

At age 14, she took part in a regional BBC competition for The Clothes Show , where she reached the national final. At 16, she was discovered by an agent from Storm Model Management , and quickly booked as a model under her nickname Cat, which was more recognizable for clients.

Career

Deeley worked as a model for a while full-time. When her contract with Storm was changed in 1997, she left that job behind. After that she switched to MTV, where she presented the chart show Hitlist UK together with Edith Bowman . From 1998 to 2002 she was co-presenter with the duo Ant & Dec on the Saturday morning program for children SMTV Live and also moderated the spin-off programs CD: UK (1998-2005) and CD: UK Hotshots . On SM: TV Live she often mimed the somewhat reluctant assistant whenever a magician appeared on the show .

In 2001 she won a British Academy Children's Award . In 2002 she was featured in a television commercial for Marks & Spencer . Other programs that she moderated were u. a. The Record of the Year , Fame Academy , the 2004 Brit Awards and Stars in Their Eyes .

Since 2011 Deeley has appeared in episode roles in various television series. In Deadbeat she embodied the leading role of the camomile.

Charity

In 2003, Deeley became a patron of London's Great Ormond Street Hospital . She is also an active supporter of UNICEF . In 2008 she visited several UNICEF projects in the Philippines , including their Soccer Aid 2 project in Manila . In December 2009 she was appointed UNICEF ambassador.

Private life

Between 2001 and 2006, she met with businessman Mark Whelan. She had a two year relationship with Jack Huston . In 2011 she was in a relationship with Michael McMillian for four months .

In early 2012, Patrick Kielty announced that he and Deeley were in a relationship. They were married on September 30, 2012 in Rome . On January 19, 2016, Deeley gave birth to a son.
