biography
Professional background
As the twelve-year-old daughter of a New York artist couple, Danes should have got a role on Steven Spielberg 's Schindler's List . However, when she could not be promised a private tutor for the time of filming in Poland , her parents turned down the role. Prior to that, Danes played an episode role in the hit series Law & Order in 1992 . Her starring role in the television series Willkommen im Leben (1994-1995) earned Danes a Golden Globe and made her and her television partner Jared Leto movie stars while they were still studying at the Performing Arts High School of New York.
Claire Danes was offered the lead role of Rose for the film Titanic . She refused, however, because shortly before she had already played with Leonardo di Caprio in Romeo & Juliet and feared that she would not “get away from him”. In 1998 Danes received a London Critics Circle Film Award for Best Actress in William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet , which was also her breakthrough acting. After completing the shooting of Brokedown Palace in September 1998, she began a four-year psychology degree at Yale University (with a letter of recommendation written by Oliver Stone ). Danes has been working on her film career since 2002 and starred in the drama Igby , among others . In 2010 she received the Emmy for the title role of autistic Temple Grandin in the HBO television film You Don't Go Alone and in 2011 her second Golden Globe Award. Since 2011 she has played the leading role of Carrie Mathison in the Showtime series Homeland , for which she received two Golden Globes and two Emmys in 2012 and 2013.
In September 2015 she got the 2559th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
