Billy Crudup (born July 8, 1968 in Manhasset , Long Island , New York ) is an American film and stage actor .

Professional background

Crudup graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale and received his master's degree in fine arts from New York University . Crudup received his first awards for his appearances on Broadway in the play Arcadia by Tom Stoppard . His screen career began in 1996 with a role in Woody Allen's musical - feature film Everyone Says I Love You . In Sleepers by Barry Levinson In the same year he played a boy who was abused in childhood and who later got on the wrong track, which made him noticed to a wider audience internationally.

Since then, Billy Crudup has repeatedly proven his great talent and ability by portraying a wide variety of characters, for example as rock star Russell Hammond in Cameron Crowe's film Almost Famous .

In 2007 he received a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the Broadway play The Coast of Utopia , also by Tom Stoppard.

Private

From 1996 to 2003 he was in a relationship with the actress Mary-Louise Parker , with whom he has a son. While filming Stage Beauty in 2003, he met actress Claire Danes and the two became a couple. They split in 2006.
