The Morning Show is an American drama - television series by Jay Carson two newscasters. The main roles are played by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon . The series is a satire about US news channels and is based on the book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV by Brian Stelter .

The first season premiered on November 1, 2019 both in the USA and in German-speaking countries on the Apple TV + streaming service . A second season has already been ordered.

Alex Levy hosts the popular newscast, The Morning Show , which has great ratings and changed the face of American television. After her partner Mitch Kessler was accused of sexual abuse , she announced his release during the show, which led to further problems.

In November 2017, it was announced that Apple had placed a series contract with two seasons of ten episodes each. Jay Carson has been hired as the scriptwriter and showrunner for the series. The leading roles were cast with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon .

In October 2018 it was announced that Steve Carell , Gugu Mbatha-Raw , Billy Crudup , Nestor Carbonell and Mark Duplass had been signed to the series. Bel Powley , Karen Pittman and Desean Terry joined the cast a month later .

The shooting took place from October 31, 2018 to May 9, 2019. It was filmed mostly in Los Angeles and New York City .
