The Daily Show (officially The Daily Show with Trevor Noah , until August 2015 The Daily Show with Jon Stewart ) is an American news satire that has been broadcasted since 1996. By December 1998, it was hosted by Craig Kilborn, 1999-2015 was Jon Stewart of the host . Cabaret artist Trevor Noah took over the show in September 2015.

Broadcast dates

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday from 11:00 PM to 11:30 PM EST on Comedy Central cable network. Until January 2010, a compilation of the four editions under the title The Daily Show: Global Edition was also shown on CNN International at the weekend in Europe . The broadcast of the Global Edition on CNN International ceased in early 2010. In Germany, Comedy Central broadcast the “Global Edition” until the end of 2009 on Mondays at 12:40 am and Thursdays at 1:20 am with German subtitles. The original English-language episodes were also freely available outside the United States through April 2014 on the broadcaster's official website. There is also a video archive that includes all videos from years since 1999, but which can no longer be played directly outside the United States.

According to its self-portrayal, The Daily Show is a “fake news program”: The program refers to current events and makes a satirical commentary . At the same time, a critical look is taken at the work of the news media , especially the conservative commentators and anchors.

The show always starts with a short monologue by the moderator, followed by the individual contributions. There are also correspondents who i. d. R. stay in the studio; by means of a green screen, however, one gives the impression that they are at the scene of world events. Often the second half of the news section is also dedicated to a short report, for which one of the correspondents is usually responsible. In these sections, the program approaches investigative journalism and presents its own research on a particular topic, without losing its satirical and humorous character.

After the news section, a prominent guest appears, with whom the moderator speaks, mostly well-known actors and book authors, but also leading politicians. Guests have already been u. a. Bill and Hillary Clinton , John McCain , Barack Obama , Jimmy Carter , James Baker , Madeleine Albright , Colin Powell , Donald Rumsfeld , Henry Kissinger , Michael Moore , as well as the Presidents of Bolivia and Pakistan , Evo Morales and Pervez Musharraf , and the King of Jordan , Abdullah II.
