Bob Mold (born October 16, 1960 in Malone , New York ) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist who is best known for his work at Hüsker Dü and Sugar . As a DJ he also appears under the name Blowoff .

Career

Bob Mold moved in the 1970s to St. Paul , Minnesota , to where the Macalester College to visit. In the local record store Memory Lane he met Grant Hart and Greg Norton , with whom he founded Hüsker Dü in 1978 . This band started out as a hardcore punk band, but over time developed a sound that combined distorted guitars with melodies and thus became one of the main influences for later alternative rock . The band's main songwriters were in equal parts Mold and Hart; over time, however, they developed a deep dislike for one another, which was exacerbated by substance abuse. In January 1988, Hüsker Dü disbanded, and communication between the two has been disturbed for a long time since then.

After Hüsker Dü broke up, Mold recorded two solo albums. Unlike his previous band, Workbook is a largely calm album. Black Sheets of Rain marks a return to a distorted guitar sound. In 1992 he founded the band Sugar with Malcolm Travis and David Barbe , which was very successful in the alternative rock scene. The album Copper Blue was named "Album of the Year" by the New Musical Express . In 1995 Sugar disbanded.

After that, Bob Mold began releasing solo albums. A self-titled album was released in 1996 and The Last Dog and Pony Show in 1998 , each combined with tours through America and Europe, sometimes without a band. After moving to New York , Mold began to take an increasing interest in electronic music. These electronic influences could be heard very clearly on his following albums Modulate (2002) and Long Playing Grooves (2002). He recorded the latter under the pseudonym LoudBomb , an anagram of his name.

Together with the DJ Richard Morel from Washington, DC , Mold is part of the Blowoff DJ team and created under this pseudonym u. a. Remixes for bands like Low , Rammstein and Interpol . In 2004, at a benefit concert for the bassist of the band Soul Asylum , Karl Mueller , who suffered from cancer (and who later died) , Hüsker Dü had a small reunion. At the end of a solo performance, he was back on stage with Grant Hart for two songs.

In 2005 Mold released another solo album, Body of Song , which also featured Richard Morel, David Barbe (Sugar) and Brendan Canty ( Fugazi ). Morel and Canty were also on the following tour, the first since 1998, which Mold played with a backing band. For the first time, Hüsker Dü songs were played in a band context. This work was documented on a 2007 live DVD entitled Circle of Friends . In February 2008 Bob Molds album District Line was released .

On the 2011 album " Wasting Light " by the band Foo Fighters , Mold sang the backing vocals for the song "Dear Rosemary".
