Sugar was an American alternative rock band that was founded in 1992 by the former Hüsker Dü guitarist and singer Bob Mold and existed until 1995.
Band history
After the breakup of the band Hüsker Dü in 1988 and two solo albums, Bob Mold founded the band Sugar in 1992 together with bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis. Their first album, Copper Blue , was released that year and was a huge hit. It was voted "Album of the Year" by the New Musical Express and was awarded a Silver Record in the UK. The music video for the single If I Can't Change Your Mind was featured frequently on MTV .
1993 came out Beaster , an EP with songs that were recorded on the recording sessions of Copper Blue , and which had a darker undertone than the previous release. After a failed attempt to record a second album, the band got together in the spring of 1994 to record their next album, File Under: Easy Listening . However, this was not a great commercial success compared to Copper Blue . Then the band took a creative break in 1995. In the same year, a collection of B-sides appeared: Besides , which also included the live LP The Joke Is Always on Us, Sometimes in a small part of the edition .
In 1995, Bob Mold dissolved Sugar because bassist Barbe wanted to take care of his family more. Mold released his third solo album that same year; Drummer Travis switched to the band Kustomized. In 2005 there was a renewed collaboration between Barbe and Mold as Barbe played the bass guitar on two songs on his album Body of Song .
