Samantha Jamie Bee (born October 25, 1969 in Toronto ) is a Canadian -American comedian, commentator, author, presenter and actress. She became known as the correspondent for the satirical format The Daily Show on Comedy Central . In 2015 she left the program at the same time as former presenter Jon Stewart . Since 2015 she has hosted her own program Full Frontal with Samanta Bee on the American special interest channel TBS of the Turner Broadcasting Group.

In 2014, she changed her citizenship from Canadian to US. In 2017 she was one of the 100 most influential women in the world according to Time .

Career

After her parents separated at a young age, Bee grew up with her grandmother. Her first stage contact was at the University of Ottawa , where she discovered her "love for acting".

After graduating from college, Bee worked as a waitress while applying for acting roles. At 26, she was part of the A-cast of the theatrical performance of Sailor Moon . Here Bee met her future husband Jason Jones, who was part of the B-cast of the piece.

In 2003 she became a correspondent for the Daily Show , for which she worked under Jon Stewart for twelve years. She quickly became known for her eloquence and viciousness, as she could "turn the word in the mouth" of guests in interviews. During her time at Comedy Central, she had a few minor roles in American television programs and films such as Law & Order (episode 445) or Phineas and Ferb . In 2011 she overtook her colleague and friend Stephen Colbert as the longest-serving correspondent; In 2014, she even hosted a show with her current husband.

After leaving the Daily Show in 2015, she got a new show on TBS, which premiered on February 8, 2016. This Wednesday, 20-minute show is the first late-night show in the United States to be hosted by a woman. Samantha Bee was nominated for five Emmys for her work on Full Frontal , of which she won one. The broadcaster extended their contract in January 2018 to four seasons until 2020.

In 2010 Bee published the book I Know I Am, But What Are You? out.

Bee co-creators the comedy series The Detour with her husband , which is also broadcast on TBS.
