The Detour is an American comedy - series , which since April 11, 2016 by the US cable channel TBS will air. The first season of the series was produced by TBS Productions , from the second season it will be produced by Randy & Pam's Quality Entertainment and Jax Media , among others . The series is about a road trip for the Parker family. The German-language first broadcast was on June 3, 2016 on the pay TV channel TNT Comedy .

The series revolves around the Parker family, father Nate Parker, Jr., his wife Robin Randall, and their children, Delilah and Jared, who were originally looking for a lovely Florida beach vacation but are on a road trip from their home in Syracuse , New York to Florida. Your trip will be interrupted time and again by car breakdowns, law enforcement agencies, unforeseen medical breakdowns and meddling locals. It is also known that Nate is on the run from the law due to professional difficulties and therefore has ulterior motives for the trip to Florida, which the rest of the family have no idea about. In addition, the events are illuminated by various flashbacks and a framework - in the form of an interrogation in which several law enforcement authorities are involved and try to solve various crimes that are not described in detail.

In October 2014, TBS first ordered the pilot for The Detour , written by Jason Jones and Samantha Bee , which was supposed to be inspired by real experiences of the two producers.
In February 2015, a first season with 10 episodes was ordered.
On April 6, 2016, a second season with 12 episodes was ordered before the first season was broadcast.
In April 2017, following the season finale of the second season, TBS ordered a third season, which was broadcast in 2018.
After four seasons, the series was discontinued in 2019.
