Edward Parker "Ed" Helms (born January 24, 1974 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American actor who worked for Jon Stewart's The Daily Show and starred in the series The Office .

Life

Ed Helms grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Oberlin College in Ohio . He then began pursuing a career as a comedy writer. From 2002 he was on the Daily Show's writing and "correspondent" team with Jon Stewart . In 2006 he left the show in order in the third season of the NBC - comedy series The Office , the role of Andy Bernard to take over. However, he came back for occasional guest appearances. In Das Büro he played alongside his former Daily Show colleague Steve Carell , where he has since taken on the job of regional manager after Carell left the show in 2011. He also had first, initially smaller roles in some movies . In 2009, he got a lead role in the box office hit Hangover , which he also played in the sequels Hangover 2 and Hangover 3 .

Helms lived in an apartment in New York until about 2006 , which he temporarily swapped with his fellow actor and friend Zach Galifianakis with his small house in Los Angeles , California for the filming of Das Büro . Since his role of Andy Bernard was still being written (actually, his contract was only valid for a few weeks because the character was not initially planned as a leading role), Helms moved to Los Angeles a short time later, where he now also has a house.
