The diocese of São Mateus ( Latin Dioecesis Sancti Matthaei , Portuguese Diocese de São Mateus ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Sao Mateus in the state of Espírito Santo .

The diocese of São Mateus was founded on February 16, 1958 by Pope Pius XII. Erected from territory ceded by the diocese of Espírito Santo . It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Vitória as a suffragan .
