Kaley Christine Cuoco [ ˈkeɪliː ˈkwoʊkoʊ ] (born November 30, 1985 in Camarillo , California ) is an American actress . Her best-known role is that of penny in the US sitcom The Big Bang Theory .

Life

Kaley Cuoco was born in 1985 in California to real estate agent Gary Carmine Cuoco and housewife Layne Ann Wingate. Her father is of Italian and her mother is of English-German descent. She played tennis until she was 17 and was placed in the top 100 of the Southern California Tennis Association as an amateur in 1998. Her younger sister Briana Cuoco was contestant in the fifth season of NBC - TV talent show The Voice .

Cuoco said in an interview with CBS Watch! Magazine that she was in a two-year relationship with The Big Bang Theory co-star Johnny Galecki . They kept their relationship a secret from the public. The separation should take place at the end of 2009 on a friendly basis. From October 2011 to March 2012 she was engaged to the therapist and former bassist of the US hard rock band Danzig , Josh "Lazie" Resnik. In 2012 she was with the musician Bret Bollinger, bassist and singer of the music group Pepper . On New Year's Eve 2013, she married the American tennis player Ryan Sweeting in Southern California , with whom she had been in a relationship since summer 2013. The couple divorced in May 2016. At the end of November 2017, she and the show jumper Karl Cook announced their engagement. The wedding took place on June 30, 2018.

Cuoco lives with her husband in Hidden Hills in the San Fernando Valley .

Career

At the age of six, Cuoco worked as a model and appeared in various commercials . She had her first major role in 1992 in the television film Am Abgrund at the side of Donald Sutherland and Tim Matheson . She had guest appearances in, among others, Ellen , Alaska , Don't Forget Your Toothbrush and Willkommen im Leben . She played a leading role in 1998 in the miniseries Mr. Murder . She became internationally known from 2002 for the role of Bridget Hennessy in My Wild Daughters , for which she received the Teen Choice Award in 2003 . She then starred as Billie Jenkins in the eighth season of Charmed .

Since September 2007 she has played Penny in the US sitcom The Big Bang Theory , which has been broadcast in Germany since July 11, 2009. In September 2010, she broke her leg while training . The character Penny was then deleted for two episodes from the fourth season of the series. In August 2014, Cuoco extended her contract for the series with Warner Bros. TV for three years. Since season eight, she, Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki have been paid a million dollars per episode. This makes them (as of August 2014) currently the best-paid series actors.

On August 7, 2011, Cuoco hosted the Teen Choice Awards and on January 11, 2012 and January 9, 2013, the People's Choice Awards . In 2014 she received her first People's Choice Award in the Favorite Comedy TV Actress category and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the television category .
