action

season 1

The series is about the adventures of Harley Quinn. After the Joker broke up with her, she tried to join the Legion of Doom . Together with Poison Ivy , she founds her own team, which consists of Clayface , Doctor Psycho , King Shark and Sy Borgman, and wants to become a well-known villain. When she reaches her goal, she distances herself from her team and is still not taken seriously by the Joker who took Gotham . In the end, Harley and her team succeed in overthrowing the Joker, which, however, also leads to the destruction of Gotham. As the season progresses, Poison Ivy falls in love with Kite Man and fights with Batman .

season 2

In the second season, Gotham is isolated from the rest of the United States and run by the newly formed Injustice League , which has divided the districts to the villains Bane , Penguin , Riddler and Mr. Freeze . Harley refuses to join the Injustice League and tries to win back Gotham with her team by defeating the other villains with her team. Both the Joker and Batman survived, with the Joker losing his memories and Batman still incapacitated, which is why Batgirl stands in for him, who is supported by James Gordon .

background

On November 20, 2017 it was announced that the streaming portal with content from DC Comics , which was then under development and later named DC Universe, had ordered 26 half-hour episodes about the character Harley Quinn under the production of Jennifer Coyle . Ehsugadee Productions and Warner Bros. Animation were named as the production companies involved . Harley Quinn was heralded as an animated adult action comedy series created by and screenplayed by Justin Halpern , Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey . Together with Sam Register , they should also act as executive producers . In October 2018, Kaley Cuoco joined the production team with her production company Yes, Norman Productions.

Charlie Adler is responsible for the English language dubbing of the series . Originally Harley Quinn was to be dubbed by Margot Robbie , who embodies Quinn in the DC Extended Universe . However, in October 2018, it was announced that Kaley Cuoco would take on this role for the series.

The series premiere for 2019 was announced in June 2018 and the release date was specified to October 2019 in the following October. The release of the final episode was announced for early 2020. However, on October 4, 2019, the release was postponed to November 29, 2019. Before the release, a trailer for the series was released at both New York Comic-Con and San Diego Comic-Con 2019.

reception

The series received mostly positive reviews with 87 out of 100 on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metascore of 82 out of 100. The Hollywood Reporter praises the well-written script, the humor and the nostalgic character of the series. Variety sees the success primarily in the charm of a Saturday morning cartoon, which, however, shows through the uncensored depiction of violence that it is aimed at an adult audience. Harley Quinn is portrayed as a person who is looking for his own way and independence from the Joker, but who is often naive, funny or strange.
