The LEGO Batman Movie is a 2017 computer animation film about the character Batman . The film is a spin-off of the 2014 film The LEGO Movie , in which Will Arnett dubbed the voice of Batman in the original.

The Joker tries to destroy all of Gotham City with a bomb, which would result in all of the city's residents falling into a deep, never-ending gorge. When Batman shows up, the Joker discusses their relationship with him, with Batman saying that the Joker means nothing to him and that he is not his greatest enemy. The latter can then flee, as Batman has to choose between imprisoning the Joker and defusing the bomb and chooses the latter. While Batman is hailed for his actions, he leads a solitary life privately as Bruce Wayne. At one event, however, because he was distracted, he adopted the orphan Dick Grayson. The event also ends early when the Joker shows up with numerous villains. Instead of fighting, however, the Joker surrenders and delivers numerous other villains, including Bane , Two-Face , Scarecrow and Catwoman . You will be admitted to Arkham Asylum . However, Harley Quinn , the Joker's mistress, is not extradited.

Batman, who doesn't trust the Joker, wants to banish him to the Phantom Zone . However, only Superman has the necessary device. At the same time, Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred Pennyworth tries to convince him to take care of his adopted son and leaves him in Batman's headquarters, the Batcave , which is located directly below his Wayne Manor property . Batman, who actually wants to send him back to the orphanage , realizes that the Batman-enthusiastic Dick can help him get to Superman's device. In a disguise with instructions from Batman, he enters the fortress of loneliness , Superman's headquarters, and steals the necessary equipment.

Then Batman breaks into the Arkham Asylum with Dick and banishes the Joker to the Phantom Zone. Before that, both of them had a verbal battle in which the Joker Batman reveals that he is obviously his greatest enemy after all, since he has banished him to the Phantom Zone. Barbara Gordon, the successor to the Gotham Commissioner, witnesses the action and has Batman locked up in Joker's cell. Meanwhile, Harley Quinn loots the device that provides the portal to the Phantom Zone and frees the Joker. This has since teamed up with various villains, including Lord Voldemort , Sauron and King Kong . Together they take control of the city.

To protect the city, Barbara Gordon releases Batman on the condition that they work together. Together with Dick and his butler Alfred, the four of them take action against the invasion. In the meantime, the Joker, who learned from Sauron where Batman is from, has occupied Wayne Manor. From there, however, Batman depends on his comrades in order to take action against the Joker alone. The Joker can banish Batman to the Phantom Zone. Once there, Batman's atrocities are measured and he is declared guilty by a stone because of the crimes committed against his colleagues. In the meantime, the stone shows Batman that his comrades-in-arms have now taken up the fight with the villains. Batman can convince the stone to let him back to Gotham if he returns with those who fled the Phantom Zone.

Together with Barbara, who receives the Batgirl costume , Dick, whom Batman gives his desired name Robin , his butler Alfred and the villains whom the Joker betrayed, Batman can teleport the villains back from the Phantom Zone. Ultimately, the Joker detonates a bomb that divides Gotham. There is a risk that everything will collapse and fall into the hole that has formed. However, the city can be held together by means of a bridge made of people. In order to complete the bridge, however, the joker must also participate. Batman can persuade him to do so by admitting that he is his greatest enemy. Together the two land masses will contract again and Gotham will be stabilized. Batman, who promised to return to the Phantom Zone after the fights, will not be allowed in anymore, as he has now worked in the team and has put his bad sides over with the change.

Will Arnett as Batman

After the success of The LEGO Movie , Warner Bros. announced the movie The LEGO Batman Movie in October 2014 , following the LEGO version of Ninjago from 2016 as the second spin-off for The LEGO Movie for 2017. The release of the sequel to The LEGO Movie , which was originally planned for May 26, 2017, has been postponed to 2018. From the first installment in the series, Will Arnett returns as the original spokesperson for Batman from The LEGO Movie , while Chris McKay , who has already co-directed The LEGO Movie , is directing The LEGO Batman Movie . According to Arnett, the idea arose of telling why Batman in The LEGO Movie was moody. McKay was originally supposed to direct the sequel to The LEGO Movie , but after it became known that he was taking over the role for The LEGO Batman Movie , McKay was replaced as director of the second LEGO Movie by Rob Schrab . The script was written by Seth Grahame-Smith and was produced by Roy Lee , Dan Lin , Phil Lord and Chris Miller , all of whom have either directed or produced The LEGO Movie .

On April 20, 2015, Warner Bros. announced February 10, 2017 as the official release date. In July of that year, Michael Cera was announced as the voice actor for Batman's partner Dick Grayson aka Robin , and in the following month it was announced that Zach Galifianakis would be speaking to her antagonist, Joker . In early November, Ralph Fiennes was confirmed as spokesperson for Batman's butler Alfred Pennyworth and Mariah Carey as Mayor Marion Grange.

Chris Miller said in June 2016 that the film is a 90-minute Easter egg for Batman fans. Phil Lord added that the film is a tribute to the comics.

On December 1, 2016, it was announced that Billy Dee Williams would speak at Harvey Dent.

It was announced in advance that the web video producer Erik Range alias Gronkh and Luke Mockridge will speak the Joker and Robin in the German version.

A few days before the first trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie was published, pictures of the trailer from the Bath Cave were published. On March 22, 2016, Will Arnett posted the movie logo on Twitter . The first trailer finally appeared on March 23, 2016, two days before the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opened in theaters in the United States. On March 28, 2016, just five days after the first trailer was released, Warner Bros. released the second movie trailer. On the sidelines of San Diego Comic-Con International 2016, Arnett spoke about working with Michael Cera, with whom he had already worked on the television series Arrested Development and was also his sidekick there. In numerous photos and posters, Warner Bros. also showed various characters, both villains and heroes, as well as Batman with his vehicles. In November, LEGO released a LEGO minifigure collection made up of characters from the movie.

In Great Britain the Lego Batman was used on the local television station Channel 4 as a program announcer before series and films and in various commercial breaks.

Many of the voice actors have cast their voices in the same roles in previous films. The voices of Batman, Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, Scarecrow, Bane, Catwoman and Two-Face are the same as those from The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises . The voices of Green Lantern, Harley Quinn, Superman and Agent Smith are also the same as in the films Green Lantern , Suicide Squad , Man of Steel and Matrix .

David Nathan gives Batman his voice again. Previously, he also voiced the dark knight in The LEGO Movie , the Dark Knight trilogy, several animated films and the four Arkham video games.

Although Ralph Fiennes plays the character Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter film series , he dubbed Batman 's butler Alfred Pennyworth in The LEGO Batman Movie . Lord Voldemort is voiced in the English dubbing by Eddie Izzard .

Udo Schenk has a dual role here. Since he has dubbed Ralph Fiennes in the role of Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter film series and Commissioner Gordon has set music to music earlier, he speaks both roles here.

Claudia Urbschat-Mingues also had a speaking role in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight , namely as an announcement in the Batmobile , the "Tumbler".
